Rhode Island College Women’s Tennis Update #3

(6-1 Overall; 4-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kelly Chartier’s team is 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Little East Conference. RIC is currently in first place in the Little East Conference.

Anchorwomen Notables

RIC has not lost since its first match of the season vs. Salve Regina on Sept. 3. RIC has won its last six matches and went 2-0 last week. The Anchorwomen defeated Springfield College on Sept. 22, then blanked LEC foe Bridgewater State, 9-0, on Sept. 23. RIC also participated in the Grass Court Doubles Tournament at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI, placing third among the eight teams that competed.

• The Anchorwomen like playing on their home court and the numbers back it up. RIC has won its last 16 home matches. The team is 4-0 at RIC this fall, was 8-0 last season and won their final four home matches of the 2003 campaign. The last time a RIC squad lost a home dual match was a 5-4 loss to Johnson & Wales on Sept. 16, 2003.

• At the Doubles Tournament, each of the three Anchorwomen teams fell in the opening round, but rebounded to win their respective consolation brackets. The team of senior Liz Barrette (North Providence, RI) and freshman Megan Hall (Smithfield, RI) went 2-1 during the day in flight A. Freshmen Margaret Funk (Oakdale, CT) and Natasha Roman (Somerset, MA) teamed up at flight B to go 2-1 for the day. Also compiling a 2-1 mark for the day was the flight C team of juniors Ashley Gorman (Cumberland, RI) and Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI).

• Having perfect weeks were Barrette at both number one singles and doubles, Funk at number three singles and number two doubles and Marchant at number five singles and number three singles. Each player went 4-0 with dual match victories over Springfield College and Bridgewater State.
