CORSAIRS EARN LEC WIN OVER ANCHORMEN
Five Errors and 14 Hits Drops RIC to 1-2 in LEC

Providence, RI—UMass Dartmouth capitalized on five Rhode Island College errors as the Corsairs downed the Anchormen, 11-4, in collegiate baseball action on Thursday afternoon. RIC falls to 8-12 overall and 1-2 in the Little East Conference. UMD improves to 5-11 overall and 2-1 in the LEC.

 

The Corsairs tagged RIC sophomore starting pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) for ten hits and nine runs in 6.1 innings of work. Thibault (2-3) gave up six earned runs, while striking out three on the day. UMD senior first baseman Dan Mancini (Marlboro, MA) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and clouted his second homer of the season with a leadoff solo shot in the top of the seventh. Sophomore right fielder Dylan Zygmont (Weymouth, MA) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and one RBI.

 

UMD junior pitcher Will Mahoney (Franklin, MA) held RIC to seven hits and three runs, while striking out seven, in eight innings of work. Mahoney (2-2) gave way to freshman pitcher Matt Kurth (Chilmark, MA) for the ninth.

 

RIC junior Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) and freshman Andy Racicot (Wareham, MA) closed out the afternoon on the mound. Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) went 2-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI and clouted a solo home run, his second of the year, in the bottom of the sixth.

 

Freshman left fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) notched a hit in his last at bat of the day to extend his hitting streak to 20 games.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play a doubleheader at Keene State on Saturday, Apr. 8 beginning at noon.
