Southern Maine Blanks Rhode Island College 9-0



        GORHAM, Maine-The University of Southern Maine Huskies men's tennis team swept all nine matches without dropping a set to blank the Rhode Island College Anchormen 9-0 in a Little East Conference men's college tennis match played Saturday at the Racquet and Fitness Center in Portland, Maine.


        The closest match of the day was at number two doubles where junior Chris Chaffee (Fryeburg, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and senior Jason Ouellette (Levant, Maine/Hermon) defeated sophomores Tom Lapierre (Pascoag, R.I./Burrillville) and Lorne Teeter (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5 in the tiebreaker).


        The win was the fourth straight for the Huskies who improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.  Rhode Island College slips to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.


        The Huskies return to action Monday when they travel to Waterville, Maine, to play Thomas College.  The matches start at 5:00 p.m.  Rhode Island College will host Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday, starting at 4:00 p.m.
