ANCHORMEN NOTCH FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN
RIC Notches Winning Record for the
First Time This Spring in, 5-4, Win Over Clark

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College downed Clark University, 5-4, in a non-conference matchup on Thursday afternoon. The Anchormen win their fourth straight contest and improve to 15-14 on the season. It is the first time the club has surpassed the .500 mark this spring. The loss drops the Cougars to 9-21 overall.

The score was tied, 4-4, as the Anchormen headed into the bottom of the ninth inning. Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) walked and then stole second base. Sophomore first baseman Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI) reached on an infield single that advanced Naylor to third. Freshman catcher Jordan Amorin (Swansea, MA) hit a sacrifice fly to center field that plated Naylor with the winning run. Junior reliever Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) came on to shut down a Cougars rally in the seventh and then pitched a scoreless eighth. Sophomore reliever Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) struck two in a scoreless ninth to earn his third win (3-1) of the season.

RIC trailed by two heading into the bottom of the seventh before tying the game up on freshman left fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) and freshman shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA) RBI singles

O’Connors went 4-for-5 with one run scored, two RBI and two doubles. Connell, Cardoso and junior designated hitter Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) each recorded two hits on the day.
