THOMAS DRAINS THREE TO LIFT PSU PAST RIC, 78-75
PANTHERS STEM FOUR-GAME LOSING STREAK IN LEC WIN

            Providence, RIóPlymouth State University junior forward Heather Thomas (Merrimack, NH) nailed a three-point basket with 23 seconds left and hit two clutch free throws with nine seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Panthers to a 78-75 win over Little East Conference rival Rhode Island College. The Panthers even their record at 4-4 overall and are now 1-1 in LEC play. The Anchorwomen fall to 6-3 overall and remain winless, 0-2, in the Little East.

 

Thomas, who had 13 points and eight boards, was one of five Panthers who scored in double figures in the game. Junior guard Ashley White (Merrimack, NH) had 12 points, nine boards and four assists, while junior guard Colleen Mahoney (North Attleboro, MA) had 14 points, four boards and four assists.

 

RIC, which led 75-73, with 57 seconds left after a senior guard Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI) three-point shot, was unable to hold on to the victory. Angell led all scorers with 15 points. Junior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) had 14 points and nine boards in a losing effort.

 

RIC and Plymouth State are off for finals and holidays. Both teams will resume the season after Jan. 1.
