WESTCONN WOMEN EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FOUR WITH WIN
OVER RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE

DANBURY, CT   The Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 67-61 victory over Rhode Island College in Little East Conference play tonight in Feldman Arena.

In the first half, the Anchorwomen (7-8, 0-6) jumped out to a 13-5 lead, with 12:31 remaining in the half, which included ten points from senior guard Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI).  The Colonials (8-7, 4-2) then rallied with a 10-2 run to tie the game at 15 apiece with just over six minutes to go in the opening frame.  After several lead changes the Colonials went into the half with a 29-26 edge.

In the second half, Rhode Island battled its way back to eventually take a nine-point lead over the host Colonials with 9:29 left in the game.  WestConn continued to battle and regained the lead for good when freshman guard Alyssa McGee (Hartford, CT) was fouled on a three-point attempt and drained all three free-throws with just over 5:00 to go.  The Colonials would never look back and went on to the 67-61 victory.

The Colonials were led by junior forward Mallory Stevens (Seymour, CT) as she tallied a team high 15 points as well as the team high six rebounds.

Angell led all scorers with 24 points for the Anchorwomen, as she also grabbed a game high ten boards.

WestConn will host Lehman University on Thursday, January 19 in a non-conference match-up.  Tip off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
