Anchorwomen fall to 2-9 in the Little East

            Providence, RI—Western Connecticut handed Rhode Island College a 57-36 loss in a battle of Little East Conference women’s basketball rivals. The Anchorwomen’s 36 points was the lowest offensive output of the season for the team, which also shot a season-low 25 percent from the field. The Anchorwomen fall to 10-11 overall and 2-9 in the LEC. The Colonials improve to 11-11 overall and 6-5 in conference action.

 

Both teams struggled on both ends of the floor as they combined for 46 turnovers (RIC: 25, WCSU: 21).

 

Western Connecticut freshman guard Jennifer Kancler (Columbia, CT) led all scorers with 14 points, highlighted by a 4-for-8 three-point performance. Junior forward Mallory Stevens (Seymour, CT) had ten points, six rebounds and two steals. Freshman forward Stacey Roberts (Windham, CT) had 11 points and seven rebounds.

 

Sophomore forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME) was the lone bright spot for RIC with a ten-point effort.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Wellesley on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. The Colonials will play at Keene State on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
