GEISLERíS LAYUP AT BUZZER WINS IT FOR RIC
Anchorwomen Down Beacons, 57-55, in Regular Season Finale

            Providence, RIóRhode Island College junior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) scored on a breakaway layup as time expired to lift the Anchorwomen past UMass Boston, 57-55, in the final game of the regular season. Geisler deflected a Beacons pass to senior guard Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI) then raced down the floor to receive a pass and score the game-winner as the horn sounded.

 

RIC improves to 12-13 overall and 4-10 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen are the sixth seed in the upcoming LEC Womenís Basketball Tournament and will play at third-seeded Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Beacons fall to 9-16 overall and 3-11 in the conference. UMass Boston is the seventh seed and will play at second-seeded Western Connecticut on Feb. 21.

 

Geisler posted her 12th double-double of the season with a 16-point, ten-rebound effort. Freshman guard Tyla Martin (Cumberland, RI) led RIC with a career-high 18 points and seven rebounds, to go along with two assists and two steals. Angell had eight points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals in her final home, regular season game.

 

The Beacons were led by sophomore center Alicia Querusio (Somerville, MA) who scored a game-high 18 points to go along with seven boards. Junior guard Lydia Coverdale (Malden, MA) had 16 points, five boards, seven assists and five steals.
