SALVE REGINA ENDS RIC HOME WIN STREAK

Providence, RI—Salve Regina defeated Rhode Island College, 5-4, in women’s tennis action on Saturday afternoon. It was the opening match of the 2006 season for both clubs. The loss snaps an 18-match home winning streak for the Anchorwomen, who had not lost on their own court since Sept. 16, 2003, 5-4, to Johnson & Wales University.

The match was tied 4-4 coming down to the #2 singles bout between RIC junior Sasha Doonan (Pawtucket, RI) and SRU senior Kristina Kennedy (East Moriches, NY). Doonan took the first game, 6-3, but Kennedy battled the windy conditions to come back and win games two and three, 6-4 and 6-1, respectively, and win the match for the Seahawks.
