RIC BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD FOR WINS IN A SEASON
Haaland & Laurie Tally as Anchorwomen Down Wesleyan, 2-1

Providence, RIóRhode Island College established a new school record for wins in a season as the Anchorwomen defeated Wesleyan, 2-1, to earn their 11th victory of the year. RIC, which upped its record to 11-1, is currently in the midst of a school-record nine-game winning streak.

Senior forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) put the Anchorwomen on top in the 14th minute with her team-leading 10th goal of the season. Junior midfielder Leah Hayes (Coventry, RI) threaded a pass through two Wesleyan defenders as Haaland broke in from the left side and beat Cardinal sophomore goalkeeper Suz Gerhardt (Wayne, PA) for the opening tally. Junior forward Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI) headed in a crossing pass from junior forward Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) in the 36th minute with what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Anchorwomen played stifling defense in the first half, but the Cardinals came to life in the second frame. Sophomore midfielder Samantha Blank (Chicago, IL) scored on a free kick pass from freshman midfielder Beth Kenworthy (New York, NY) in the 56th minute. Sophomore midfielder Marissa Trevisan (Brookline, MA) hit the crossbar late in the second half, but the Anchorwomen held on for the victory.

Rhode Island College sophomore goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) played the first half, making one save to earn her 10th (10-1) win of the year. Freshman netminder Kendra DeGiulio (Warwick, RI) played the second half, making two saves. Gerhardt took the loss, making two stops in one half of action, as her record falls to 3-2. Sophomore Gavi Elkind (San Francisco, CA) played the final 45 minutes, making three stops.

In upcoming action, RIC will face Little East Conference rival Western Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 7 at noon in a battle for first place.
