Sasha Doonan Named Little East
Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

 

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior Sasha Doonan (Pawtucket, RI) was named the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

 

Doonan helped RIC to a 3-0 week and sole possession of first place in the Little East Conference by going 3-0 at number two singles and 2-1 at number one double. She defeated Emily Johnson from UMass Boston at number two singles (6-0, 7-6 (7-1)) and teamed with sophomore Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) to defeat Johnson and Denise Ridge at number one doubles (8-3) in the Anchorwomen’s, 9-0, rout of LEC opponent UMass Boston on Oct. 3. She defeated Emily Slack of Clark at number two singles (6-1, 6-1) in the Anchorwomen’s, 7-2, win over the Cougars on Oct. 5. Doonan helped RIC take outright control of first place in the Little East Conference by defeating Meghan Rodier from Plymouth State (6-4, 7-5) at number two singles and teamed with Funk to defeat Jill Deyermond and Erica Huckins (8-3) in RIC’s, 8-1 win over PSU on Oct. 7.

 

Doonan is 9-3 at number two singles and 10-4 at number one doubles for 14.0 points on the season.

 

Head Coach Kelly Chartier’s team is 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen have won 11 straight matches since opening the season with a 5-4 loss to Salve Regina.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Suffolk on Wednesday, Oct. 11 and host Little East rival UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 14.
