ANCHORWOMEN CAPTURE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE LITTLE EAST
REGULAR SEASON TITLE

RIC IMPROVES CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK
TO 29 MATCHES

Providence, RIóRhode Island College captured its fourth consecutive Little East Conference Womenís Tennis Regular Season Title in an 8-1 win over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The Anchorwomen finish the regular season with a 13-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in LEC play. Rhode Island College has won 29 consecutive Little East Conference regular season matches, having not lost a league contest since falling, 5-4, at Plymouth State on Sept. 14, 2002.

Head Coach Kelly Chartierís club will be looking to win their third Little East Conference Womenís Tennis Tournament Championship in the past four seasons when they travel to UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 20-21. A win at the tourney would give the Anchorwomen a berth in the NCAA Div. III Womenís Tennis Tournament, which is played in the spring. 2006 marks the first season the Little East Championship winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAAs.

Rhode Island College freshman Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) ran the table at number six singles this season, posting a perfect 7-0 mark, after downing UMass Dartmouthís junior Alicia Newton (Orange, MA) (6-4, 6-3). Sophomore Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) and junior Sasha Doonan (Pawtucket, RI) won at number one and two singles, respectively, to finish the regular season with 6-1 marks in league action.

It was Senior Day for Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) and she capped off the afternoon with a victory at number two doubles. Marchant, along with junior Kseniya Gurvich (Barrington, RI) and freshman Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield, MA), all closed out the season with 6-1 marks in their respective flights.

UMass Dartmouth sophomore Allison DeAngelis (Milford, MA) picked up the lone victory with a hard-fought win (6-3, 2-6, 7-6 [10-6]) over Marchant at number three singles.
