Willimantic, CT— Senior middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) had 14 kills and attacked at .333, while freshman outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) and junior setter Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) combined for 42 digs to carry the No. 2 seeded Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team into the final of the 2006 Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament with a  30-23, 25-30, 30-28, 30-21 win over No 3 seeded Plymouth State University Friday night in the semifinals at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

Rhode Island (20-12) advances to the final for the first time and will meet the winner of a late semifinal-round match between No. 1 seeded Eastern Connecticut State University (28-9) and No. 4 seeded Keene State College (24-12). Eastern defeated Keene in last year’s final after eliminating Rhode Island both last year and in the 2004 semifinals.

After the team’s split the first two games, Rhode Island emerged with a two-point win in Game 3 to take a 2-1 advantage. There were seven ties in Game 3 before the Anchorwomen scored four straight points to break from a 15-15 deadlock.  The lead crested at six points twice thereafter. Rhode Island led by a score of 29-23 before the Panthers pulled to within 29-28.

Corriveau led RIC with 22 digs. Rosa added 20 digs and 19 assists, while senior defensive specialist Kara Sarcione (Londonderry, NH) contributed 18 digs. Junior right side hitter Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) followed Miga with 11 kills. Corriveau added nine kills and serving 19 balls with just one error. Junior setter Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) followed Rosa with 19 assists.

Eliza Badeau led Plymouth State with 19 kills, but committed 12 attack errors. Kirsten Willoughby added 12 kills for the Panthers. Wendy Dziedzic had nine kills and served 18 balls without an error. Sarah Spears had 23 digs, while Brianna Kleckner chipped in with 26 digs and  43 assists.
