O’CONNORS & NAYLOR HELP RIC DOWN MCLA, 11-5
Briggs Earns Second Win as RIC Goes Over .500

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College defeated Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 11-5, in collegiate baseball action on Monday afternoon. The Anchormen snapped a 3-3 deadlock in the bottom of the third inning, capped by freshman designated hitter Jared Rossi’s (Johnston, RI) first collegiate hit: a three-RBI double to center field. Rhode Island College outscored the Trailblazers, 8-2, from the bottom of the third on to go over the .500 mark for the first time on the season with a 5-4 record. MCLA falls to 2-9.

With one out, junior third baseman Pete Olson (North Providence, RI) and senior catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) belted back-to-back singles. Sophomore left fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) then tagged MCLA junior pitcher Jim Pesente (Whitman, MA) for a three-run homer (1), despite cracking his bat on the drive.

RIC loaded the bases with one out in the home half of the third and Pesente walked sophomore second baseman Jeff Costa (Pawtucket, RI) to give the Anchormen back the lead prior to Rossi’s double.
