NICOLE RILEY NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) was named the Little East Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Riley posted a perfect 5-0 record and added a save as Rhode Island College turned in a 6-2 mark at the 2007 Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla. between Mar. 11-14. She boasts a microscopic earned run average of 0.20 over the course of 35.2 innings, while recording four complete games and three shutouts. In a pair of victories over nationally-ranked teams, Riley turned in a complete game without surrendering an earned run to go along with five strikeouts as the No. 24 Anchorwomen defeated Ramapo, 2-1, on March 11. Two days later, she surrendered just a single hit over seven innings, while striking out four, in a 4-0 victory against Rowan. Riley leads the Little East Conference in earned run average, opposing batting average (.183), strikeouts (42), and wins (5).

She is riding a 28-game winning streak, which dates back to Mar. 17 of 2006 during the team's spring trip. Riley is currently tied with Kim Warrington '04 for the RIC softball career wins record. Riley is 53-15 in her career. Warrington was 53-37.

Riley will have a chance to break the record as the Anchorwomen will host a doubleheader with Wheaton on Tuesday, Mar. 27 beginning at 3 p.m. Head Coach Maria Morin’s team is currently 6-2 overall and were ranked 24th in the latest edition of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Div. III Poll.
