Rhode Island College’s Nicole Riley
Named Second Team All-American

 

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) was named a Second Team All-American for her performance in softball this season. Riley received the award at the NCAA Div. III Softball Tournament National Championship Banquet, held at the Civic Center in Salem Virginia on Thursday evening.

 

Riley has already been named First Team All-New England, was the Little East Conference’s Pitcher of the Year and garnered First Team All-Little East honors for the second consecutive season. She was named to the 2007 NCAA Div. III Softball N.E. Regional’s All-Tournament Team, where she went 3-0 in four appearances with a 0.97 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. The senior righty has appeared in 41 games, starting 34 of them. Riley is 29-3 with a 0.84 earned run average and two saves. She has struck out 228 batters in 208.1 innings of work and logged 12 shutouts. Riley is Rhode Island College’s all-time leader in career wins (77), games started (96), relief appearances (24) and shutouts (23). She is second in strikeouts (595) and innings pitched (617.1), while ranking third in career ERA (1.55). Riley owns the longest consecutive winning streak in NCAA Div. III softball history (43 games), which began on Mar. 17, 2006 and ended on Apr. 22, 2007.

 

Head Coach Maria Morin’s Anchorwomen are the sixth seed in the NCAA Div. III Softball Tournament’s National Championship Round, which begins on Friday, May 18. Sixth-seeded Rhode Island College (41-5) will face third-seeded Wisconsin Eau-Claire (35-12) at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia on Friday, May 18. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

In 2007, Rhode Island College captured its third consecutive Little East Conference Regular Season Championship, second straight LEC Tournament title, and  hosted and won the NCAA Div. III Softball New England Regional Tournament for the first time in school history
