Nicole Riley Named Spring Female Athlete of the Year
at Inaugural Cox Sports Television
Rhode Island Sports Awards

 

Providence, RI—Cox Sports Television named Rhode Island College senior pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) the Spring Female Athlete of the Year at the inaugural Rhode Island Sports Awards, held at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Thursday, June 21.

 

A senior captain on the softball team, Riley helped lead Rhode Island College to a 41-7 record, its third consecutive Little East Conference Regular Season Championship, second straight LEC Tournament title, second appearance in the NCAA Div. III Softball Tournament in which the Anchorwomen won the New England Region and advanced to the National Championships for the first time in school history.

 

 

 

Riley was named Second Team All-American, First Team All-New England, was the Little East Conference’s Co-Pitcher of the Year and garnered First Team All-Little East honors for the second consecutive season. She was named to the 2007 NCAA N.E. Regional’s All-Tournament Team where she went 3-0 in four appearances with a 0.97 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. The senior righty appeared in 43 games, starting 36 of them. Riley was 29-5 with a 1.12 earned run average and two saves. She struck out 233 batters in 219.1 innings of work and logged 12 shutouts. Riley is Rhode Island College’s all-time leader in career wins (77), games started (98), relief appearances (24) and shutouts (23). She is second in strikeouts (600) and innings pitched (628.1), while ranking third in career ERA (1.64). Riley owns the longest consecutive winning streak in NCAA Div. III softball history (43 games), which began on Mar. 17, 2006 and ended on Apr. 22, 2007.
