Rhode Island College Finishes Third in
Little East Conference Commissionerís Cup


Providence, RIóRhode Island College placed third in the annual Little East Conference Commissionerís Cup standings for the 2006-07 year. RIC totaled 5.3333 points, while Eastern Connecticut took second (5.8783) and Keene State won the title (6.6783).


Rhode Island College captured both the regular season and tournament championships in both menís basketball and softball, while the womenís tennis team won the LEC regular season championship.


Southern Maine placed fourth (4.9917), Plymouth State was fifth (4.6437), Western Connecticut was sixth (4.087), UMass Dartmouth was seventh (3.4921) and UMass Boston was eighth (3.0612).


            The Commissionerís Cup measures an institutionís overall performance in the 19 sports sponsored by the conference. For sports in which the Little East conducts in-season play (baseball, basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball), point totals are determined by the order of finish in the final regular season standings, with bonus points awarded to the champion of the ensuing postseason conference tournament. For sports that do not conduct in-season play (cross country, indoor track, outdoor track, and swimming) points are awarded based on the order of finish at the conference championship.
