Stewart Honored by Little East

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I.óRhode Island College sophomore guard Cameron Stewart (Rogers/Newport, R.I.) was named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll by the conference office this afternoon. He averaged 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and three steals as the Anchormen went 1-1 on the week.

 

            Stewart began the week with his best performance in a Rhode Island College uniform, registering season-highs in scoring (17), rebounds (8), assists (6), and steals (5) as the Anchormen defeated Fitchburg State, 74-63, in their home-opener on Nov. 28. On the accuracy of his season-high four three-pointers, Rhode Island College logged a season-high 14 field goals from behind the arc.   
            Stewart continued his impressive play with 11 points in the conference opener against Keene State on Dec. 2. He knocked down four-of-eight shots against the Owls, including three-of-six from long range, while also collecting seven boards.

 

            Through the early slate of contests, Stewart leads the team in three-point percentage (.450), while ranking second in field goal percentage (.464), free throw percentage (.833), rebounds (28, 7.0 rpg), and steals (10). His 11.2 points per game is third best on the squad. Stewart also ranks among the leaders in the conference circuit in free throws (fourth), steals (fifth), an seventh in both rebounding and three-pointers made.   

 

             Rhode Island College (3-1) returns to the hardwood on Dec. 5, when the Anchormen travel to intra-state rival Johnson & Wales. Cox Sports Television will broadcast the game live on Channel 3 at 7:30 p.m.
