WIN OVER COLONIALS MARKS RECORD START FOR ANCHORMEN
Five RIC Players Score in Double Figures to Lead Balanced Attack

 

     Providence, RIóRhode Island College downed Western Connecticut State, 85-61, at The Murray Center this evening in Little East Conference menís basketball action. The Anchormen extend their current win streak to 11 games, while raising their overall record to 14-1 and 5-1 in the conference circuit. The 14-1 record marks the best 15-game start in the programís long history.

 

Earlier today, Rhode Island College debuted at No. 22 in the latest edition of the D3hoops.com National Poll, registering the programís first appearance in the national standings.

 

The Anchormen used this momentum to build a commanding, 38-21, halftime lead and cruised to their second largest margin of victory on the campaign. Sophomore forward Kaseem Johnson (New Haven, CT) scored 10 of his 14 points in the first stanza, while pulling in five of his nine total rebounds. Senior center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) was just one off the team pace, while senior classmates Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) and Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore guard Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY) also reached double digits with 10 points. Sophomore guard Bobby Bailey (Fall River, MA) had five boards and four assists, while Durgin dished out a team-best five helpers.

 

Freshman guard Carlos Pellot (Carmel, NY) was the lone bright spot for the Colonials (10-6, 4-2), scoring 12 of his game-high 16 points in the first frame. He also picked up the second half of his double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds, while also handing out three assists and logging three blocks.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Little East Conference rival Keene State on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m.
