Durginís 22 Points Not Enough
RIC Downed At Keene State, 92-81

  KEENE, N.H.óThe No. 22-ranked Rhode Island College menís basketball team could not avenge its lone loss of the season, dropping a 92-81 Little East Conference decision at No. 24 Keene State this afternoon at Spaulding Gymnasium. The Anchormen slip to 14-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference circuit, while the Owls improve to 14-2 and 6-1.

 

Senior guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, Maine) scored a team-high 22 points to lead the charge for Rhode Island College. Durgin also pulled in six rebounds and handed out two assists. Sophomore guards Bobby Bailey (Fall River, Mass.) and Tirrell Hill (Bronx, N.Y.) also reached double digits in scoring, netting 17 and 12 points, respectively. Classmate forward Kaseem Johnson (New Haven, Conn.) grabbed a team-high seven boards.

 

Three student-athletes on Keene State reached double figures in scoring, paced by sophomore forward Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, Vt.). Kathan logged a double-double with game-highs in points (25) and rebounds (10). Junior forward Nick Drouin (Weare, N.H.) was just three points off the team lead, while classmate guard David Sontag (Mount Vernon, N.H.) posted 14 points.

 

The Anchormen scored the final five points of the first frame to cut the hostsí advantage in half at 45-40. Durgin scored seven points to spark a 15-5 surge to open the second stanza and take a 56-50 lead with 15:11 remaining in regulation. He drained 4-of-4 attempts from the charity stripe during the run, and finished the contest with a perfect 8-for-8 effort from the line.   

 

Rhode Island College returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, when the Anchormen travel to UMass Dartmouth.
