RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE MENíS INDOOR TRACK PLACES FOURTH AT ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

Medford, MAóThe Rhode Island College menís indoor track and field team took part in the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Tufts on Saturday, February 10. The Anchormen placed fourth overall (10 teams) with 59.0 points and third in the Little East (five teams) with a team score of 73.0.

 

 Senior Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events. He placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters, eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.26 and was seventh as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 3:49.66.

 

Senior Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events. He placed third in the mile with a time of 4:21.90, third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:34.55 and second as part of the 4x800 meter relay team with a time of 8:14.67.

 

 Junior Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events. He placed first in the 600 meters and second as part of the 4x800 meter relay team with a time of 8:14.67.

 

Freshman Max Willett (Portsmouth, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events. He placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.32 meters and was seventh in the high jump at 1.73 meters.

 

Sophomore David Simpson (West Warwick, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events. He placed seventh in the 600 meters with a time of 1:27.14 and second as part of the 4x800 meter relay team with a time of 8:14.67.

 

Junior Greg Ahnrud (Chepachet, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events. He placed sixth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:42.31 and second as part of the 4x800 meter relay team with a time of 8:14.67.

 

Junior James Polak (Smithfield, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing eighth with a distance of 13.09 meters.

 

Freshman Kevin Leber (Newport, RI), senior John Martinelli (North Providence, RI) and freshman Kwame Gyampo (Providence, RI), along with Newman, earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed seventh with a time of 3:49.66.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will take part in the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Boston University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17.
