2006-07 Women’s Indoor Track and Field Season Summary

 

Providence, RI—Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team finished the 2006-07 season at the New England Open Championships, hosted by Boston University on Feb. 23-24. The Anchorwomen had one runner advance to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Championships on Mar. 2-3.

 

Rhode Island College competed at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 17. The Anchorwomen did not score as a team.

 

The Anchorwomen competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, held at Tufts University on Feb. 10. RIC tied for ninth place (10 teams) overall and finished fifth (five teams) in the Little East with 19.0 and 22.0 points, respectively.

 

Senior Maggie Wenc (Pawtucket, RI) placed 24th in the weight throw with a throw of 8.11 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championship on Feb. 10.

 

As a sophomore in 2004-05, Wenc placed 23rd in the weight throw with a distance of 6.14 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. She placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 5.81 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15.

 

She is a health and physical education major and a 2002 graduate of Tolman High School.

 

Junior Ashley Dion (Cumberland, RI) placed sixth in the high jump with 1.57 meters jump at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

Sophomore Hannah Clark (Attleboro, MA) placed 13th in the 600 meters with a time of 2:08.71 and 18th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 13:31.28 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. Clark placed eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 13:34.16 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. She placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 13:31.53 and seventh in the 600 meters with a season-best time of 2:08.70 at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational on Jan. 20. Clark placed 13th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:58.53, and 21st in the mile with a time of 6:37.71 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 13. She placed 27th in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 12:56.45 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. She placed 11th in the mile with a season-best time of 6:33.30 at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

Sophomore Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) placed 15th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:09.84 at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 3. She placed 22nd in 1,000 meters with a school-record time of 3:06.61 at the New England Open Championships on Feb. 24. Fleming placed 13th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:06.61 and 11th in the high jump with a season-best leap of 1.48 meters at the New England Div. III Championships at University of Southern Maine on Feb. 17. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 1,000 meters, placing first with a time of 3:12.58, as well as the high jump, placing fourth with a leap of 1.54 meters at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. Fleming placed fourth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:08.06, and third in the high jump with a jump of 1.55 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 3. She placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.53 meters and third in the 800 meters with a school-record time of 2:28.41 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. Fleming placed first in the high jump with a jump of 1.55 meters at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational on Jan. 20. She placed sixth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:11.98 and 10th in the high jump with a jump of 1.42 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 13. Fleming placed 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.16 at Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. She placed ninth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:11.04 at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

Sophomore Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) placed third in the weight throw with a throw of 12.98 meters at the URI mega meet on Feb. 3. Horsman placed second in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 13.10 meters at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. She placed third in the weight throw with a throw of 12.96 meters at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational on Jan. 20. Horsman placed third in the weight throw with a throw of 12.54 meters at the Tufts Indoor Invitational on Jan. 13. She placed 10th in the weight throw with a throw of 11.65 meters at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

Freshman Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the shot, placing sixth with a distance of 10.50 meters, as well as the weight throw, placing eighth with an effort of 11.10 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. Bucci placed eighth in the shot with a throw of 10.06 meters, and placed 10th in the weight throw with a throw of 10.47 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 3. She placed fourth in the shot with a distance of 10.00 meters and fifth in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 11.46 meters at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. Bucci placed second in the shot with a season-best distance of 10.61 meters and ninth in the weight throw with a 10.86-meter effort at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational on Jan. 20. She placed fifth in the shot with a throw of 10.52 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 13. Bucci placed 22nd in the weight throw with a distance of 10.86 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. She placed 16th in the weight throw with a throw of 10.24 meters at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

Freshman Jillian Keady (Mansfield, MA) placed 32nd in the weight throw with a throw of 7.06 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. She placed 19th in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 8.32 meters at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

Freshman Christine Smith (Foster, RI) placed 16th in the mile with a time of 6:42.92 and 12th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 3:06.82 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championship on Feb. 10. She placed ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 3:15.06 at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational on Jan. 20. Smith placed 33rd in the mile with a time of 7:06.23 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. She placed third in the 3,000 meters with a season-best  time of 14:23.55 at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.
