LIZ O’CONNELL NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE WOMEN’S TENNIS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

 

 

Providence, RI – Rhode Island College freshman Liz O’Connell (Harrisville, RI) was named the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.

 

O’Connell was unbeaten at both No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles in a 2-0 week for the Anchorwomen. Both of her singles wins came in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) without losing a game. She is 3-0 (1.000) at No. 3 singles and 3-0 (1.000) at No. 2 doubles for 4.5 points on the season.

 

RIC defeated Worcester State, 9-0, on Sept. 13 and downed Salem State, 8-1, on Sept. 15 to open LEC play. The Anchorwomen have won 16 consecutive matches dating back to last season and 27 of their last 28. Rhode Island College has won 30 consecutive Little East Conference regular season matches, having not lost a league contest since falling, 5-4, at Plymouth State on Sept. 14, 2002.

 

Head Coach Kelly Chartier’s team is 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference. In upcoming action, RIC will play its first road contest of the season on Sept. 18, traveling to LEC rival Western Connecticut for a 3:30 p.m. match.
