ANCHORMEN & CORSAIRS PLAY TO, 1-1, TIE
Rocha Scores First of Season for RIC

Providence, RIóRhode Island College and UMass Dartmouth battled to a 1-1 overtime time in collegiate menís soccer action at the RIC Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Anchormen, who havenít lost in their last four contests, see their record go to 5-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Little East Conference. UMass Dartmouth, which had a five-game winning streak snapped vs. Salem State on Wednesday, is now 5-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the LEC.

The Anchormen got on the board in the 12th minute as junior midfielder Josh Silva (Dartmouth, MA) split two UMD defenders with a pass that sent in senior midfielder Derek Rocha (Fall River, MA) for the gameís opening tally. Rhode Island College controlled play for the remainder of the half and for almost the entire second stanza, outshooting the Corsairs, 34-19, on the day. RIC had several chances to take a two-goal lead, which included two shots that ringed off the crossbar.

Despite the pressure and time winding down on the clock, UMass Dartmouth senior defender Nick Swaja (Swansea, MA) took a free kick that junior midfielder Jason Bettencourt (Lowell, MA) headed in for the equalizer in the 86th minute. The game went into two overtime periods, but neither team could find the back of the net for the game-winner.

UMass Dartmouth senior goalkeeper Kyle Fossey (Townsend, MA) was a key factor in preserving the tie. He made 16 saves, including some point-blank stops in the extra session, as his record goes to 5-1-1 on the season. Rhode Island College sophomore goalkeeper Dereck Loisel (Warwick, RI) made seven saves, while his defense made two stops, as his record goes to 3-1-1.
