RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
GOES 1-2 AT TRINITY INVITATIONAL

 

 

Hartford, CT – The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team went 1-2 at the Trinity College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21-22.

 

The Anchorwomen opened against the hosts and fell, 3-1 (19-30, 31-29, 26-30, 17-30) on Friday, Sept. 21. The senior duo of middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside, RI) and Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) led the team with 15 kills apiece. Garcia added 18 digs and eight blocks, while Heard chipped in with four digs and four blocks. Senior setter Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) handed out a team-high 20 assists.

 

Rhode Island College opened Saturday’s action with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-16) win over Lasell. Heard blitzed the Lasers for 15 kills and freshman setter Nicole Enos (Coventry, RI) led the team with a career-high 25 assists.

 

The Anchorwomen were hoping to avenge an earlier loss this season when RIC faced Colby-Sawyer, but fell 3-1 (17-30, 20-30, 30-27, 28-30). Garcia and sophomore outside hitter Desiree Georges (Woonsocket, RI) led the team with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. Heard added 10 kills, while Garcia  posted a team-high 16 digs. Enos led the team with 22 assists and was third with 10 digs.

 

Head Coach Luis Carvalho’s team is currently 8-7 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salem State on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.
