RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE TO HOST GALA EVENT TO CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF WOMEN’S
INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS ON OCT. 19

 

 

Providence, RI – Rhode Island College will celebrate its 30th Anniversary of Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics with a gala event held at the John Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Oct. 19.

 

The event will kick-off at 7 p.m. with a panel discussion entitled “Saluting the Legends”. The panel, made up of Rhode Island athletic heroes Wilma Briggs, Eleanor Lemaire, G. Gail Davis ’60, Gail Davis and Lauren Anderson, will be moderated by Rhode Island College Vice President for Development, Dr. Marguerite Brown and will discuss the past, present and future of women’s athletics in Rhode Island.

 

The panel will be followed by an award’s ceremony honoring the Greatest Moments in Anchorwomen History. RIC will celebrate the accomplishments of the following teams and individuals:

 

• 1980-81 Women’s Basketball Team
• 1981 Women’s Volleyball Team
Lois (Testa) Lynch ’57 Competes at 1956 Olympics
• 1984 Softball Team
• 1984-85 and 1985-86 Women’s Basketball Teams
Jo-Ann D’Alessandro ’88 Leads the Nation in Free Throw Percentage
Cathy Lanni ’88 Posts 1,000 Career Points and Rebounds
Claudia DeFaria ’96 Scores 1,000 Points in Two Seasons
Sue Paul Earns National Championship
• 2007 Softball Team
Caitlin Gavin Leads NCAA in Goals Per Game
Nicole Riley Establishes NCAA Consecutive Win Streak
