ROCHA & TURBITT LEAD RIC PAST PANTHERS
Neves Nears RIC Career Shutout Record

Plymouth, NH – Senior midfielder Derek Rocha (Fall River, MA) scored the game-winning goal and sophomore midfielder Matt Turbitt (Providence, RI) added an insurance tally as Rhode Island College downed Plymouth State, 2-0, in collegiate men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon. RIC improves to 6-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Little East, while the hosts fell to 4-6-1 overall and 2-3 in league action.

PSU outshot the Anchormen 6-5 in the opening half, but Rocha scored the only goal for RIC to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.  Junior midfielder Josh Silva (Dartmouth, MA) picked up an assist on the goal.

The Panthers accumulated a 6-3 edge in second-half shots, but Turbitt converted a through ball from junior midfielder Brandon Migliore (Coventry, RI) for RIC to make it a 2-0 game in the 68th minute. It was Turbitt’s second consecutive game with a goal and his third of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) made four saves in the RIC goal to post his second shutout of the season.  He currently has 16 career shutouts, two shy of Frank Kowalik’s all-time RIC record. Junior Tyler Shute (Deerfield, NH) stopped five shots in the Panther goal.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Westfield State on Wednesday, Oct. 17, while the Panthers will play at Middlebury tomorrow afternoon.
