Eastman and LaBarre Capture No. 3 Doubles Championship at 2007 Little East Conference
Women’s Tennis Championships

 

 

Providence, RI – Rhode Island College sophomore Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield, MA) and freshman Brittany LaBarre (Greenville, RI) captured the Little East Championship at No. 3 doubles, defeating Bridgewater State seniors Alison Tripp (South Dennis, MA) and Paula Araujo (Fall River, MA), 8-4, at the 2007 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen end the day in second place with 10 points, trailing Bridgewater State (12.0) by two points.

 

The top-seeded tandem of junior Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) and senior Sasha Doonan Rodriguez (Pawtucket, RI) will face the second-seeded pair of UMass Boston senior Aurora Lormeus (Milton, MA) and sophomore Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA) in the championship match of the No. 1 doubles flight tomorrow morning.

 

Sophomore Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) and freshman Liz O’Connell (Harrisville, RI) won their first round match at No. 2 doubles, before falling in the quarterfinals to UMass Dartmouth freshman Alexi Fiorta (Reading, MA) and freshman Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA), 8-6.

 

Third-seeded Funk lost to sixth-seeded UMass Boston senior Aurora Lormeus (Milton, MA), 9-7, in first round action of the No. 1 singles flight.

 

Third-seeded Doonan Rodriguez defeated UMass Dartmouth junior Allison DeAngelis (Milford, MA), 8-3, in first round action of the No. 2 singles flight.

 

Top-seeded O’Connell defeated eighth-seeded UMass Boston sophomore Kristen Chan (Irvine, CA), 8-0, in first round action of the No. 3 singles flight.

 

Second-seeded Bannon fell to seventh-seeded Plymouth State sophomore Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, MA), 8-6, in first round action of the No. 4 singles flight.

 

Second-seeded Eastman defeated seventh-seeded Southern Maine sophomore Chelsea Cutler (Dayville, CT), 8-1, in first round action of the No. 5 singles flight.

 

Third-seeded LaBarre defeated sixth-seeded Western Connecticut freshman Deborah Ferreira (Danbury, CT), 8-0, in first round action of the No. 6 singles flight.

 

The title match at No. 1 doubles and the semifinals and finals, as well as consolation action, of the six singles flights will begin tomorrow at 8:45 a.m.
