MELANIE NEECE NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK

 

Providence, RIóRhode Island College freshman pitcher Melanie Neece (Westfield, MA) was named the Little East Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for her performance at the NCAA Div. III Softball New England Regional Softball Tournament.

 

 

 

Neece did not surrender an earned run in three appearances as Rhode Island College captured its second straight NCAA Div. III Softball New England Regional Softball Tournament May 8-11. The righty allowed one unearned run on five hits in 17 innings of work, while striking out 21 batters. Neece out-dueled the NCAA Div. III career strikeouts leaders in the championship game, hurling a complete-game one hitter against St. Josephís (L.I.). For her efforts, she was named to the NCAA N.E. Regionalís All-Tournament Team.

 

For the season, she has appeared in 31 games, starting 20 of them. Neece owns a 21-3 record to go along with a 1.88 ERA, two saves and 139 strikeouts in 145.1 innings pitched.

 

Head Coach Maria Morinís team is 36-7 overall. The Anchorwomen captured their fourth consecutive Little East Conference Regular Season Championship, third straight LEC Tournament title and won the NCAA N.E. Regional for the second time in as many seasons.

 

RIC is off to the NCAA Div. III Softball National Championship Round, hosted by the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va. May 16-20. The Anchorwomen will face Louisiana College at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 16.
