RIC Baseball Sends Three To Prominent Summer Leagues

 

Providence, R.I.—Three members of the Rhode Island College baseball team will see action in several prestigious leagues this summer.

 

Junior Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) signed with the Little Falls Miners of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. This past season, Fama was named First Team All-Little East as a relief pitcher. He was a First Team selection in 2006 and missed all of 2007 while recuperating from off-season Tommy John surgery. He appeared in 18 games, posting a 0-2 record with seven saves, a 2.18 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 20.2 innings of work. Fama led the league in saves. Junior shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA) has signed with the Rockville Express of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League. This past season, Cardoso played in 39 games, starting all of them, batting .290 (45-for-155) with 33 runs scored, nine doubles, five home runs and 35 RBI. Junior right fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) has been invited to tryout for the Cape Cod Baseball League. The Third Team All-New England and First Team All-Little East selection played in 39 games, starting 38 of them, batting .417 (58-for-139) with 34 runs scored, 17 doubles, three home runs, 34 RBI and three stolen bases. He owned a .604 slugging percentage, a .512 on-base percentage and a .966 fielding percentage. O’Connors was second in the Little East in batting, doubles and on-base percentage. He led RIC in batting, runs scored, hits and doubles, while ranking second in RBI.
