Rhode Island College Places in Top 25 Percent Nationally in Directorsí Cup Standings


Providence, R.I.óThe Rhode Island College varsity athletic program placed 101st (182.75 points) among 430 Div. III institutions in the annual United State Sports Academy Directorsí Cup standings for the 2007-08 year. It is the second consecutive year the College has finished in the top 25 percent nationally.




College and universities earn points for NCAA team and individual appearances and championships. The wrestling team finished 14th in the nation as senior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) was the NCAA National Champion at 141 lbs., earning All-American honors for the second straight year. The softball team won the NCAA Div. III Softball Tournament New England Region and advanced to the National Championship Round for the second consecutive campaign. The menís basketball team won the Little East Conference for the second year in a row and competed in the NCAA Div. III Menís Basketball Tournament.
