2007 Rhode Island College Menís Cross Country
Season Summary

 

 

 

Providence, RIóHead Coach Kevin Jacksonís team finished the 2007 season tying for 28th place (47 teams) at the NCAA New England Regional Championships, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday, Nov. 10 with a team score of 849.0.

 

 

 

The Anchormen placed 15th place (37 teams) at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, hosted by Williams College on Saturday, Nov. 3 with 476.0 points.

 

 

 

RIC placed eighth (13 teams) in the Alliance and fourth (six teams) in the Little East Conference with scores of 229.0 and 115.0, respectively, at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 27.

 

 

 

Senior Greg Ahnrud (Chepachet, RI) was named the teamís MVP. He was RICís top runner, placing 122nd (330 runners) with a season-best time of 26:59 at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 61st with a time of 28:07 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Ahnrud placed 56th with a time of 28:15 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He placed third with a time of 29:22 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 13. Ahnrud placed eighth overall with a time of 29:29 at the Roger Williams Invitational Oct. 6. He led Rhode Island College, placing 16th overall with a time of 28:41, at the Tri-State Invitational on Sept. 29. Ahnrud led RIC, placing seventh overall with a time of 31:42, at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22. He placed 89th with a time of 27:40 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15. Although he has one year of eligibility remaining, Ahnrud plans on graduating this spring.

 

 

 

 As a junior in 2006, placed 210th at the NCAA N.E. Div. III Championships with a time of 30:33 on Nov. 11. He placed 151st with a time of 29:42 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 4. Ahnrud placed 63rd with a time of 30:35 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 28. He placed third with a time of 30:08 vs. Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 14. Ahnrud placed 14th with a time of 29:30 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 1. He placed 18th with a season-best time of 29:05 at the Tri-State Championships on Sept. 30. Ahnrud placed 22nd with a time of 33:52 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 23. He placed 129th with a time of 29:50 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 16.

 

 

 

 As a sophomore in 2005, placed 193rd overall with a time of 29:41 at the New England Championships on Nov. 12. He was 172nd with a time of 29:22 at the ECAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 5. He was 56th with a time of 29:11.92 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. He placed fifth with a time of 24:31 (shortened course) at a tri-meet with Mitchell at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15. He was 19th with a time of 31:06 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished 25th with a season-best time of 29:24 at the Tri-State Invitational on Oct. 1. He placed 167th with a time of 28:59 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17. He placed 19th with a time of 18:43 (shortened course) at the Ocean State Invitational on Sept. 8.

 

 

 

 He attended Assumption College in 2004-05.

 

 

 

 Ahnrud is a political science major and a 2004 graduate of Ponaganset High School.

 

 

 

Senior Greg Clark (Pawtucket, RI) placed 136th with a season-best time of 33:17 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He placed 25th with a time of 36:36 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 13. Clark placed 69th with a time of 37:38 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 6. He placed 65th with a time of 36:07 at the Tri State Invitational on Sept. 29. Clark placed 40th with a time of 41:23 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22. He placed 210th with a time of 33:55 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

 

 

As a junior in 2006, Clark placed 265th at the NCAA N.E. Div. III Championships with a time of 33:02 on Nov. 11. He placed 234th with a time of 32:33 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 4. Clark placed 104th with a time of 33:28 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 28. He placed 12th with a season-best time of 32:28 vs. Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 14. Clark placed 73rd with a time of 33:10 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 1. He placed 74th with a time of 33:09 at the Tri-State Championships on Sept. 30. Clark placed 69th with a time of 38:59 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 23. He placed 173rd with a time of 33:15 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 16.

 

 

 

As a sophomore in 2005, he placed 204th overall with a time of 30:09 at the New England Championships on Nov. 12. He was 197th with a time of 30:26 at the ECAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 5. He was 65th with a time of 29:33.62 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. He placed 12th with a time of 26:01 (shortened course) at a tri-meet with Mitchell at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15. He finished 33rd with a time of 32:01 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 8. He was 51st with a time of 31:57 at the Tri-State Invitational on Oct. 1. He was 55th with a time of 32:07 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 24. He was 217th with a time of 31:12 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17. He placed 24th with a time of 20:08 (shortened course) at the Ocean State Invitational on Sept. 8.

 

 

 

As a freshman in 2004, Clark placed 151st with a time of 29:39 at the New England Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 139th with a time of 30:31 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. He placed 34th with a season-best time of 27:59 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 30. Clark placed 71st with a time of 22:05 at the Plansky Invitational (shortened course) on Oct. 23. He placed 17th at the RWU Invitational with a time of 31:00 on Oct. 9. He finished 14th at the Ray Dwyer Invitational with a time of 31:50 on Sept. 25. He finished 172nd at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 29:48 on Sept. 18. He placed 11th with a time of 32:18 at the Rhode Island Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 9.

 

 

 

He is a physical education/health major and a 2004 graduate of Hope High School.

 

 

 

Senior Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed 208th with a season-best time of 28:43 at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 147th with a time of 29:52 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Van Gieson placed 81st with a time of 29:12 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. Van Gieson has a year of cross country eligibility remaining and plans to run next season.

 

 

 

Junior David Simpson (West Warwick, RI) placed 237th with a time of 29:27 at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 167th with a time of 30:29 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Simpson placed 85th with a season-best time of 29:16 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27.

 

 

 

Junior Hunter Stewart (Foster, RI) placed 273rd with a time of 31:01 at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 161st with a season-best time of 30:16 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Stewart placed 109th with a time of 30:37 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He placed 19th with a time of 31:58 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 13. Stewart placed 40th with a time of 32:37 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 6. He placed 36th with a time of 31:34 at the Tri-State Invitational on Sept. 29. Stewart placed 20th with a time of 33:38 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22.

 

 

 

Sophomore James Smith (Saunderstown, RI) placed 25th with a season-best time of 35:15 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22.

 

 

Freshman Mike Macedo (North Scituate, RI) placed 166th with a time of 27:54 at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 82nd with a time of 28:31 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Macedo placed 34th with a season-best time of 27:07 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He placed 11th with a time of 30:29 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 13. Macedo was RICís top runner, placing seventh with a time of 29:19, at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 6. He placed 22nd with a time of 29:22 at the Tri-State Invitational on Sept. 29. Macedo placed 10th with a time of 31:54 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22. He placed 136th with a time of 28:56 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

Freshman Cesar Smith (Bristol, RI) placed 138th with a time of 27:12 at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He was RICís top finisher, placing 55th overall with a time of 27:59, at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Smith was RICís top runner and placed 30th overall with a season-best time of 26:50 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He was RICís top finisher, placing second with a time of 29:06 (shortened course), at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 13. Smith placed 11th overall with a time of 29:49 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 6. Smith placed 16th with a time of 33:13 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22. Placed 137th with a time of 28:57 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

Freshman Tony Yin (Attleboro, MA) placed 257th with a season-best time of 30:10 at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 222nd with a time of 32:25 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Yin placed 112th with a time of 31:08 at the Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He placed 20th with a time of 32:29 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 13. Yin placed 38th with a time of 32:29 at the Roger Williams Invitational on Oct. 6. Yin placed 24th with a time of 34:58 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational on Sept. 22. He placed 159th with a time of 30:08 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.
