2008 Rhode Island College Women’s Outdoor
Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, RI—Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s women’s outdoor track & field team finished the season at Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC ) Championships on Thursday and Friday, May 15-16. RIC placed 44th (52) teams with 4.0 points.

 

 

 

The Anchorwomen sent four student-athletes to the New England Open Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10. RIC placed 18th (28 Teams) with 10.0 points at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.

 

Rhode Island College placed fifth (12 teams) overall with a team score of 82.5 and fourth (six teams) in the Little East with a team score of 100.0 at the New England Alliance Championships on Saturday, Apr. 26.

 

Junior Hannah Clark (Attleboro, MA) placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a program-record time of 16:33.20 at the New England Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 16:51.83 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Clark placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 17:17.26 in the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed 37th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 3:08.65 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Clark placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 3:15.39 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29.

 

Junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) earned All-ECAC honors in the high jump with a season-best fourth place, 1.61-meter leap at  the ECAC N.E. Div. III Championships on May 16. She placed ninth in the high jump (1.60m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 9-10. Fleming earned All-New England honors in the high jump (1.55m) with a third place finish at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 2-3. She earned New England Alliance honors in four events at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed third in the long jump (4.77m), fourth in the high jump (1.57m) and fifth in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:24.24. Fleming was part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 4:20.25.

 

Fleming placed first in the high jump (1.55m), second in the 800 meters (2:26.79) and sixth in the long jump (4.66m) in the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. She placed first in the high jump (1.60 meters) and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team (4:17.36), third in the 1,500 meters (5:11.80) and long jump (4.54m) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Fleming placed first in the high jump (1.60m), second in the 800 meters (2:24.35), and fourth in the long jump with a season-best effort (5.03m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed first in the long (4.54) and the high jumps (1.52 meters), as well as the 400 meters with a season-best effort (1:03.99), at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Fleming placed fourth in the high jump (1.57m) and fifth in the 1,500 meters with a season-best effort (5:07.08) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Junior Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) placed 17th in the hammer throw with a throw of 42.66 meters at the ECAC Championships on May 16th. She placed ninth in the hammer with a distance of 42.48 meters at the N.E. Open Championships on May 10. Horsman earned All-New England honors in the hammer with a seventh place (40.64m) effort at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. She was the New England Alliance Champion in the hammer with a first place season-best (43.55m) effort at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. Horsman placed second in the hammer with a distance of 41.62 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. She placed first in the hammer with a distance of 43.38 meters at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Horsman placed first in the hammer with a distance of 41.61 meters at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. She placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 42.07 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Sophomore Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) placed 25th in the hammer with a throw of 39.73 meters at the ECAC Championships on May 16. She earned All-New England honors in the hammer with an eighth place (40.39m) effort, while also placing ninth in the discus (33.55m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. Bucci was the New England Alliance Champion in the discus, placing first with a season-best effort (33.92m), while also earning N.E. All-Alliance honors in the hammer (41.62m) with a second place finish and a seventh place finish in the shot (10.16m), at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed first in the hammer (42.43m), fourth in the shot (10.22m), both season-best efforts, and sixth in the discus (31.02m) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Bucci placed first in the shot (10.17m) and discus (30.53m), while finishing second in the hammer (41.99m) at the Swanson Invitational on April 12. She placed second in the hammer (41.33m) and fourth in the discus (30.66m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Bucci placed second in the hammer (39.86m), third in the shot (9.64m) and fourth in the discus (30.00m) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. She placed 10th in the discus (27.14m) and 11th in the hammer (37.43m) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Sophomore Liz Glunt (Altoona, PA) placed 15th as part of the 4x100 meter relay (53.31) and 10th in the 4x400 meter relay (4:19.38) at the N.E. Div. III Championships May 1-3. She earned New England Alliance honors as part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 4:20.25, while also placing 10th in both the 400 meters (1:05.72), a season-best effort, and the long jump (4.45m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. Glunt placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4.55 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. She placed 11th in the 100 meters (14.78), 12th in the 200 meters (29.74) and fourth in the long jump (4.40m) in the Swanson Invitational on Apr 12. Glunt placed seventh with a season-best effort in the long jump (4.66m) and 11th in the 400 meters (1:06.83) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed third in the long jump (4.35 meters), as well as, season-best efforts with a sixth place finish in the 200 meters (28.94) and an eighth place mark in the 100 meters (14.20) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Glunt placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 1.09 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Sophomore Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) placed 22nd in the triple jump (10.15m) at the ECAC Championships on May 16th. She placed fourth in the triple jump (10.24m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 10. Iby earned All-New England honors in the triple jump, placing eighth with a 10.47-meter effort. She also placed 10th as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:19.38 and 15th as part of the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.31 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. Iby earned New England Alliance honors in three events at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed second in the triple jump with a 10.35-meter effort and eighth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:03.08. Iby was part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 4:20.25. She placed first with a season-best effort in the triple jump (10.70m) and third in the 400 meters (1:03.49) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Iby placed second in the triple jump (9.91m) and seventh in 100 meters (14.29) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed second in the triple jump (10.10m) and ninth in the 400 meters (1:05.47) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed third in the triple jump (9.13m), third with a season-best effort in the 100 meters (13.89) and fourth in the 200 meters (28.39) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Iby placed third in the triple jump (9.61m), 10th in the 100 meters (14.28) and 11th with a season-best effort in the 200 meters (29.16) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Lindsey Brisson (Coventry, RI) placed 23rd in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:41.38 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:44.07 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Brisson placed 11th in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 5:47.17 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed 30th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:46.15 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Brisson placed eighth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:53.65 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29.

 

Freshman Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) placed ninth in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 5:28.24 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed 13th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:42.50 in the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Desrosiers placed ninth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:38.15 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed 24th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:41.94 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Desrosiers placed sixth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:52.93 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. She placed 19th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.82 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) placed 19th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of  1:07.61 at the ECAC Championships on May 16th. She placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.96 at the N.E. Open Championships on May 10. DiBlasi placed 18th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.78), 10th in the 4x400 meter relay (4:19.38) and 15th in the 4x100 meter relay (53.31) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. She earned New England Alliance honors in the 400 and 100 meter hurdles, placing first and fourth, respectively, with times of 17.08 and 1:07.26 (season-best) as well as the 4x400 meter relay, which placed third with a time of 4:20.25 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. DiBlasi placed first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.35) and third in the 100 meter hurdles (17.00) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. She placed first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.63) and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.97) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. DiBlasi placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.83) and 10th with a season-best effort in the long jump (4.28m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed first with a season-best effort in the 100 meter hurdles (16.75) and in the triple jump (9.16m) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. DiBlasi placed fourth in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 8.93 meters in the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Rachael Johnson (Wakefield, RI) placed 12th in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:06.44 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.90 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Johnson placed 13th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:42.10 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed 15th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.94 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Johnson placed second in the triple jump (9.16m), a season-best, and sixth in the 800 meters (2:44.63) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. She placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.11 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Denise McCann (West Greenwich, RI) placed 15th as part of the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.31 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. She placed 14th with a season-best effort in the 100 meters (13.95) and 16th in the 200 meters (29.04) at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. McCann placed 10th in the 200 meters (29.04) and 14th in the 100 meters (14.56) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. She placed eighth in the 100 meters (14.50) and 11th in the 200 meters (29.65) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. McCann placed 15th in the 100 meters (14.11) and 26th with a season-best effort in the 200 meters (29.03) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed seventh in both the 100 meters (14.19) and 200 meters (29.30) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. McCann placed 14th in the 100 meters (14.67) and 13th in the 200 meters (30.15) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) placed 15th in the 100 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 16.89 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. She earned New England All-Alliance honors in the 100 meter hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 17.43, while also placing 16th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:18.59) at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (17.22) and seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:19.44) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Nunes placed third in both the 100 meter hurdles (16.91) and 400 meter hurdles (1:15.69) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed eighth in the 100 meter hurdles (17.40) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Nunes placed first in the 400 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:15.38 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. She placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.43 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Nicole Poirier (Concord, NH) placed 11th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 22:19.71 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed sixth in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 21:57.75 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Poirier placed 12th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 23:01.55 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed 29th in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 6:09.47 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Poirier placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 12:56.50 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29.

 

Freshman Rachael Santaniello (Exeter, RI) earned New England Alliance honors in the hammer with a season-best sixth place (35.35m) finish at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed third in the hammer with a distance of 33.92 meters at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Santaniello placed fourth in the hammer with a distance of 35.11 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed fifth in the hammer with a distance of 33.39 meters at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Santaniello placed 15th in the hammer with a toss of 30.47 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.
