2008 Rhode Island College Men’s Outdoor
Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the 2008 season at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Div. III Championships on Thursday and Friday, May 15-16. The Anchormen did not score as a team.

 

 

 

RIC tied for 35th place (38 teams) with a score of 3.0 at the New England Open Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10. The Anchormen placed 20th (26 teams) with a score of 6.0 at the New England Div. III Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.

 

Rhode Island College placed eighth overall (12 teams) and fourth (six teams) in the Little East Conference with scores of 52.0 and 77.0, respectively, at the New England Alliance Championships on Saturday, Apr. 26.

 

Senior Greg Ahnrud (Chepachet, RI) earned New England Alliance honors in the 1,500 meters, placing fifth with a season-best time of 4:07.44. He placed fifth in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:02.63 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Ahnrud placed ninth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:15.03 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed first in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:16.65 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Ahnrud placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.20 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22. Although he has a year of eligibility remaining, Ahnrud is graduating.

 

As a junior in 2007, he earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. He placed sixth in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 4:09.67, seventh in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:00.60 and fifth as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:32.47. Ahnrud placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.22 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. He placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:14.70 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14. Ahnrud placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.20 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7. He placed second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:12.54 and fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.29 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. Ahnrud placed 16th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:16.97 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24.

 

As a sophomore in 2006, Ahnrud earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 1,500 meters, placing eighth with a time of 4:15.30, at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. Ahnrud placed 13th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:14.17 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22. He placed 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.10 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 8. Ahnrud placed sixth in the 800 meters and seventh in the 1,500 meters with times of 2:10.10 and 4:17.50, respectively, at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1. He placed 23rd in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:24.97 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 25.

 

He attended Assumption College in 2004-05.

 

Ahnrud is a history and political science major and a 2004 graduate of Ponaganset High School.

 

Senior Greg Clark (Pawtucket, RI) placed 23rd in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:11:28 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed 16th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:49:15 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Clark placed 54th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15:43 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15:59 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Clark placed 35th in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 4:47:63 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

As a junior in 2007, he placed 24th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.20 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. He placed 17th in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 20:06.07 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. Clark placed 17th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:54.02 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14. He placed 20th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:16.58 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7. Clark placed 13th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:45.23 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31.

 

As  a sophomore in 2006, Clark placed ninth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:17.50 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. He placed 24th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:21.45 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22. Clark placed 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.79 at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. He placed 24th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:32.42 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 8. Clark placed 11th in the 800 meters and 13th in the 1,500 meters with times of 2:10.10 and 4:22.30, respectively, at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1. He placed 29th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:28.74 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 25.

 

Clark is a physical education and health major and a 2004 graduate of Tolman High School.

 

Senior Charles Kuti (Providence, RI) placed 21st (44.72) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the ECAC Championships on May 16. Kuti placed 11th (44.21) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. He placed 12th in both the 100 meters (11.86) and long jump (5.88m) and 20th in the 200 meters (24.20) at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed ninth in both the 100 meters (12.00) and in the long jump (6.08m) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Kuti placed 11th in the long jump (5.86m) and 13th in the 400 meters with a season-best effort (53.86) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. He posted three season-bests by placing sixth in the long jump (6.34m), ninth in the 100 meters (11.62) and 11th in the 200 meters (23.46) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Kuti placed second in the long jump (5.89m) and third in the 400 meters (53.90) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. He placed fourth in the long jump (6.04m) and 19th in the 400 meters (54.90) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

As a junior in 2003, he placed 15th as part of the 4x400 relay team with a time of 3:36.88 at the ECAC Championships. Kuti placed 13th as part of the 4x100 meter relay team with a time of 45.64 at the N.E. Div. III Championships. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 100 meters, the long jump and the 4x100 meter relay at the Alliance Championships. Kuti placed eighth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57, eighth in the long jump with a leap of 19’07.50” and third as part of the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.65. He also placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.68. He placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19’07.50”, tenth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.11 seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 11.74 at the Bridgewater State Invitational. He placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 18’06.00”, 17th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.00 and 14th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.80 at the RIC Invitational.

 

As a sophomore in 2002, Kuti was named the team’s MVP. He placed 14th as part of the 4x100 meter relay team with a time of 46.30 at the ECAC Championships. He placed 13th as part of the 4x100 meter relay team with a time of 46.58 at the N.E. Div. III Championships. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x100 meter relay team, which placed fifth, with a time of 45.51 at the Alliance Championships. Kuti earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 100 meters, placing sixth with a time of 11.86 at the Alliance Championships. Kuti recorded a season-best time of 11.44 in that event during the preliminary run. He recorded a season-best time of 24.24 in the 200 meters and a distance of 17’09.75” in the long jump at the Alliance Championships.

 

He is a political science major and a 1999 graduate of Feinstein High School.

 

Senior Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) placed 23rd in the discus with a season-best distance of 31.74 meters at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed 11th in the discus with a distance of 29.83 meters at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Pierlioni placed eighth in the discus (28.03m) and ninth in the shot, a season-best, (8.64m) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29.

 

Prior to joining the track team, Pierlioni played four seasons of basketball at RIC from 2003-07. He is an art education major and a 2003 graduate of Plainville High School.

 

Senior James Polak (Smithfield, RI) earned New England All-Alliance honors in the discus with a seventh place (36.66m) finish at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed second in the discus with a season-best distance of 38.83 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 12. Polak placed third in the discus (35.54m) and sixth in the hammer (33.53m) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. He placed 12th in the discus with a distance of 33.96 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Polak placed second in the hammer (33.93m) and third in the discus (34.30m) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. He placed 17th in the hammer with a season-best effort (34.59m) and 18th in the discus (34.28m) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

As a junior in 2007, he placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 35.07 meters and 13th in the hammer with a 37.94-meter effort at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. He placed third in the discus with a season-best throw of 36.73 meters and 11th in the hammer with a 34.09-meter effort at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. Polak placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 36.00 meters and 10th in the hammer with a throw of 35.16 meters at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14. He placed third in both the discus and hammer with efforts of 35.75 and 39.46 meters, respectively, at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7. Polak placed third in the discus with a throw of 35.85 meters and second in the hammer with a season-best throw of 38.76 meters at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. He placed 11th in the discus with a throw of 35.53 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24.

 

As a sophomore in 2006, Polak placed ninth in the discus and 13th in the hammer with distances of 33.65 and 35.83 meters, respectively, at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. He placed 22nd in the discus with a distance of 30.64 meters and 27th in the javelin with a distance of 33.86 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22. Polak placed 19th in the discus with a distance of 31.60 meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. He placed tenth in the discus with a distance of 30.22 meters at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 8. Polak placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 34.48 meters and seventh in the javelin with a distance of 35.71 meters at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1. He placed 26th in the discus with a distance of 28.64 meters at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 25.

 

As a freshman in 2005, he placed 19th in the discus and 22nd in the javelin with throws of 27.05 meters and 28.66 meters, respectively at the Alliance Championships on May 1. He placed 21st in the discus and 17th in the javelin with distances of 28.38 meters and 26.16 meters, respectively, at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23.  He placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 28.43 meters at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16.  He placed 24th in the discus with a distance of 90’09.00” at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

 

Polak is a criminal justice major and a 2004 graduate of Smithfield High School.

 

Senior Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed 17th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55:74 at the ECAC Championships on May 16. He placed first in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:54:70 at N.E. Open Championships on May 10. Van Gieson placed 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.85 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. He was the New England Alliance Champion in the 800 meters, placing first with a time of 1:56.68 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. Van Gieson placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.81 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. He placed sixth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 51.49 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Van Gieson placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.52 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed first in 800 meters with a time of 1:58.41 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. He placed 13th in the 200 meters with a season-best effort (24.85) and fifth in the 400 meters (52.12) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

As a junior in 2007, he placed 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.12 at the Last Chance Qualifier on May 18. He placed 13th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:54.84 at the NEICAAA Championships on May 10-12. Van Gieson placed 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.85 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 5. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events, placing first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.59 and fifth as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:32.47 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. He placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.52 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. Van Gieson placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.16 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.43 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7. Van Gieson placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.76 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. He finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.92 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24.

 

As a sophomore in 2006, Van Gieson placed 15th in the 800 meters and 19th as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 3:35.93 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 6. Van Gieson earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 meters, placing third with a time of 1:57.94, and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed first with a time of 3:24.59, at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. He was part of the 4x400 relay team that placed second, establishing a new school-record time of 3:23.72 in that event, at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22. He placed 11th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:21.72 at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. Van Gieson placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.02 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 8. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.50 at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1.

 

As a freshman in 2005, he earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events, placing seventh in the 800 meters and third as part of the 4x400 meter relay with times of 2:04.14 and 3:33.39, respectively at the Alliance Championships on May 1. He placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 52.98 at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23.  He placed tenth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.07 at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16.  Van Gieson placed 14th in the 400 meters with a time of 53.47 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. He placed 18th in the 400 meters with a time of 55.22 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

 

Van Gieson is a sociology/philosophy major and a 2004 graduate of Ponaganset High School.

 

Junior Dante Lopardo (Johnston, RI) was named the team’s MVP. He placed 11th in the high jump (1.84m) at the ECAC Championships on May 16. Lopardo placed fifth in the high jump (1.95m) meters at the N.E. Open Championships on May 10. He earned All-New England honors in the high jump (1.90m) with a third place finish, while also placing 15th in the long jump (5.81m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. Lopardo was the New England Alliance Champion in the high jump (1.98m) with a season-best effort, while also earning New England Alliance honors in both the long (season-best performance) and triple jumps (6.27m/12.71m) with fourth place efforts, at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed first in the high jump (1.96m), third in the triple jump (13.12m) with a season-best effort and seventh in the long jump (6.24m) meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Lopardo placed first in the high jump (1.95m) meters, eighth in the triple jump (12.73m) and 12th in the javelin (34.68m) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. He placed fourth in the high jump (1.86m) and seventh in the long jump (6.28m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Lopardo placed first in the triple jump (10.72m), second in the high jump (1.83m) and sixth in the javelin (43.47m), a season-best, at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. He placed fifth in the triple jump (11.83m) and sixth in the long jump (5.90m) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Junior Hunter Stewart (Foster, RI) placed 22nd in the 400 meters with a time of 51.82 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. He placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 51.79 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. Stewart placed fifth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 51.02 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. He placed second in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:59.62 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Stewart placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 51.88 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. He placed sixth in the 400 meters (52.19) and ninth in the 200 meters (24.28) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Sophomore Kyle Duguay (Cumberland, RI) placed 21st (44.72) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the ECAC Championships on May 16. Duguay placed 11th (44.21) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. He placed 23rd in the 200 meters with a time of 24.30 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed 20th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.28 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Duguay placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.07 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. He placed 24th in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 24.00 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Duguay placed seventh in the 100 meters, with a season-best performance (11.88), and eighth in the 200 meters (24.43) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. He placed 15th in the 200 meters (24.88) and 19th in the 100 meters (12.15) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Sophomore Kwame Gyampo (Providence, RI) placed 21st (44.72) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the ECAC Championships on May 16. Gyampo placed 11th (44.21) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. He placed 15th in the 100 meters (12.06) and 32nd in the 200 meters (24.89) at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed 16th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.15 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Gyampo posted season-best performances by placing 13th in the 100 meters (11.69) and 16th in the 200 meters (23.89) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed seventh in the 200 meters (24.09) and 12th in the 100 meters (11.99) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Sophomore Kevin Leber (Newport, RI) earned New England Alliance honors in the long jump with a sixth place, 6.14 meter effort, while also placing 16th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.58), both season-best performances, at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed third in the long jump (6.11m) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Sophomore Max Willett (Portsmouth, RI) placed third in the high jump (1.91m), 10th in the long jump (6.03m) and 13th in the 100 meters (12.08) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. He placed second in the high jump (1.90m), fourth in the javelin (47.43m), a season-best effort, and eighth in the long jump (6.14m) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Willett placed second in the high jump (1.91m) and fifth in the long jump (6.37m), a season-best effort, at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed first in the high jump (1.93m) with a season-best effort, third in the long jump (5.65m) and fifth in the javelin (43.70m) meters at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Willett placed third in the high jump (1.82m) and 15th in the javelin (46.28m) meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Adilson Alves (Central Falls, RI) placed 21st (44.72) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the ECAC Championships on May 16. Alves placed 11th (44.21) as part of the 4x100 meter relay at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. He placed 15th in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 53.12 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. Alves placed 17th in the 400 meters with a time of 53.85 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. He placed 11th in the 200 meters (24.01), a season-best performance, and 14th in the 100 meters (12.26) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Alves placed 21st in the 400 meters with a time of 54.16 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed seventh in the 400 meters with at time of 55.00 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Alves placed 18th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.65 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Adam Johnson (Warwick, RI) placed 24th in the javelin with a distance of 36.50 meters at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed ninth in the javelin with a distance of 37.89 meters at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Johnson placed 11th in the hammer with a season-best distance of 38.65 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed eighth in the javelin with a season-best distance of 40.90 meters at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Johnson placed 22nd javelin throw with a distance of 39.97 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Mike Macedo (North Scituate, RI) placed 30th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 33:44.73 while at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. He earned New England Alliance honors in the 10,000 meters with a season-best third place (33:36.14) finish, while also placing 18th in the 5,000 meters (17:08.24) at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. Macedo placed first in 10,000 meters with a time of 34:17.97 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. He placed eighth in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 4:24.48 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. Macedo placed fifth in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 16:15.59 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. He placed third in both the 1,500 (4:29.81), and 5,000 meters (16:26.51) while at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Macedo placed eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:23.36 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Freshman Travis Stockton (Deland, FL) earned New England Alliance honors in the discus, placing eighth with a season-best distance of 36.62 meters at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. He placed seventh in the discus with a distance of 33.60 meters at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. He placed sixth in the discus (31.44m) and eighth in the shot (9.17m), a season-best performance, at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. He placed 25th in the discus (31.46m) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.
