Mike Bonora and Kevin Sutherland Earn
Pilgrim Wrestling League Weekly Honors

 

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) and freshman Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) were recognized by the Pilgrim Wrestling League for their performances this past week.

 

Bonora was named the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Wrestler of the Week. He is currently the No. 1-ranked grappler at 141 lbs. in the nation and New England, posting an undefeated 10-0 record with 44 takedowns, four reversals, 11 near-falls and three pins on the season. He captured the 141 lbs. title at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 10 and at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 17.

Freshman Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) was named the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Rookie of the Week. He is the No.1-ranked wrestler in New England at 149 lbs. Sutherland is 10-2 with 15 takedowns, three reversals, seven near-falls and two pins. He captured the 149 lbs. title at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 10 and placed fifth at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 17.

Head Coach Jay Jones team is 1-0 overall, 1-0 in the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) and 1-0 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League. RIC is currently the No. 1 team in New England (Div. III) and ranked fifth among Div. I, II and III institutions.

 

The Anchormen are off for the Thanksgiving Day holiday and will resume action at their home opener vs. Plymouth State on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m.
