MIKE BONORA SHINES AT
MIDLANDS WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

 

 

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior 141 lbs. Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) logged an outstanding performance at the prestigious Midlands Wrestling Championships, hosted by Northwestern University on Dec. 29-30.

 

 

 

Bonora, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation and New England at 141 lbs. in Div. III, accepted an invitation to compete against some of the top Div. I, II and III wrestlers in the nation.

 

 

 

Bonora started off by defeating Div. I Northern Iowa’s CJ Ettleson, 9-4. Ettleson was ranked No. 7 in the nation. Bonora then saw his 18-match winning streak come to an end, falling to Div. I Northwestern’s Keith Sulzer, 4-2.

 

In the consolation bracket, Bonora defeated Rider's Fred Rodgers, 5-3. He then fell to the University of Pittsburgh's Drew Headlee, 10-4.  Bonora’s record stands at 19-2, with his only losses coming to Div. I opponents.

 

Head Coach Jay Jones’ Anchormen get back to action at the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming on Jan. 11-12. RIC is currently ranked No. 18 in the nation, No. 1 in New England and is 3-0 on the season.
