RIC Women’s Track Places Third
at Alliance Indoor Track & Field Championships

 

 

 

Gorham, ME—The Rhode Island College women’s indoor track and field team placed third overall (11 teams) and third in the Little East Conference (six teams) with 86.0 and 91.0 points, respectively, at the 2008 LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships.

 

 

 

Junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events. She was the Alliance/Little East Champion in the long jump, placing first with a leap of 5.09 meters. Fleming placed second, and tied the meet record, in the high jump with a 1.65-meter effort. She also placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:07.58 and as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65.

Sophomore Steina Flemming (Tortola, BVI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events. She was the Alliance/Little East Champion in the 55 meters, placing first with a time of 7.34. Flemming also placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.28 and third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21.

Junior Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little honors, placing first and taking home the crown in the weight throw with a distance of 13.02 meters.

Sophomore Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events. She placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.68 meters. Iby also placed third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21 and second as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65.

Freshman Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events. She placed fifth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.36. DiBlasi also placed third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21 and second as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65.

Sophomore Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events. She placed third in the shot and sixth in the weight throw with efforts of 10.71 and 11.56 meters, respectively.

Freshman Rachael Santaniello (Exeter, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing seventh with a distance of 11.30 meters.

Freshman Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events. She placed third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21 and second as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65.

Freshman Lindsey Brisson (Coventry, RI) earned All-Little East honors in the 600 meters, placing sixth amongst league competitors with a time of 1:54.96.

In upcoming action, Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team will compete at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Tufts, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23.
