Anchorwomen ground Phoenix
Albert Wins All-Around Competition

            Providence, RI—The Rhode Island College women’s gymnastics team sent its lone senior out with a 170.600-165.000 victory over visiting Wilson College this afternoon on Senior Day at The Murray Center.  The Anchorwomen earn their second victory of the season, raising their overall record to 2-10 and 2-7 in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) action. 

 

Prior to the start of the dual meet, the Rhode Island College athletic department honored its lone senior, Melissa Demirjian (Warwick, RI). Demirjian performed well in her final home meet, leading the Anchorwomen on vault with a score of 8.925 and placing third overall on both bars (8.350) and floor (9.125).

Rhode Island College surpassed the 170-point mark for the season straight home meet and second time on the campaign. Freshman Robyn Albert (Sharon, MA) won a pair of events, capturing the all-around (34.975) and bars (8.700). Albert also led the hosts on beam with a score of 8.950. Sophomore Elizabeth Ann Glunt (Altoona, PA) earned second place in the all-around (34.950) and on bars (8.450).

Freshman Samantha Bowman (Joppatowne, MD) placed third in the all-around with a score of 34.700 and won on vault (9.350) to lead Wilson (0-4). Classmate Samantha Vance (Winchester, VA) earned top honors on the beam (9.025), while placing second on the floor (9.150) and fifth in the all-around (34.550).

 

Rhode Island College returns to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, when the Anchorwomen travel to Southern Connecticut State University.
