2007-08 Women’s Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team wrapped up the 2007-08 women’s indoor track and field season with two competitors seeing action at the 2008 NCAA Div. III Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships on Mar. 15.

 

Rhode Island College tied for 34th place (51 teams) with a team score of 7.0 points at the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships on March 7-8 at Harvard.

 

The Anchorwomen earned a 24th place tie (32 teams) with a team score of 4.0 at the 2008 New England Open Championships, hosted by Boston University on Feb. 29 – March 1.

 

Rhode Island College tied for 20th overall (25 teams) with 3.0 points at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Tufts on Feb. 22-23.

 

The Anchormen placed third overall (11 teams) with 86.0 points and third (six teams) in the Little East Conference with 91.0 points at the 2008 Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 16.

 

Junior Hannah Clark (North Attleboro, MA) placed 19th  in the 800 meters with a time of 3:11.54 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 32nd in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 3:03.12 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. Clark placed 39th in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 15:07.13 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) placed ninth in the high jump, one place shy of All-American status, with a 1.61-meter effort at the 2008 NCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships on Mar. 15. Fleming earned All-ECAC honors in the high jump, placing fourth with a school-record leap of 1.66 meters at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 8. She placed ninth in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters at the N.E. Open Championships on Mar. 1. Fleming earned All-New England honors in the high jump, placing sixth with a 1.53-meter effort at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 23. She also placed 13th in the 1,000 meters with a school-record time of 3:06.06 and placed 12th in the long jump with a 4.69-meter effort at the same meet.

 

Fleming earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She was the Alliance/Little East Champion in the long jump, placing first with a season-best leap of 5.09 meters. Fleming placed second, and tied the meet record, in the high jump with a 1.65-meter effort. She also placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:07.58 and as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65.

 

She placed 32nd in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:09.29 and 15th in the high jump with a leap of 1.63 meters at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Fleming placed eighth in the 1,000 meter run (3:07.09), third in the high jump (1.60) and placed 11th in the long jump (4.73) at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. She placed 10th in the 800 meters (2:35.27), third in the high jump (1.56 meters) and fifth in the long jump (4.77 meters) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Fleming placed first in the high jump (1.60 meters), the long jump (4.61 meters) and the 1,000 meters (3:12.41) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed ninth in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters and seventh in the 800 meters a school-record time of 2:28.04 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12.

 

Fleming placed 19th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.31 and eighth in the high jump with a leap of 1.55 meters in the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. She placed 20th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.58 and placed 20th in the high jump with a leap of 1.47 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Junior Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) placed 27th in the weight throw with a season-best distance of 12.49 meters at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 8. She placed ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.77 meters at the N.E. Open Championships on Mar. 1.

 

Horsman was the Alliance/Little East Champion in the weight throw, placing first with a distance of 13.02 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championship on Feb. 16. She placed 47th in the weight throw with a toss of 11.40 meters at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Horsman placed 11th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.07 meters at the URI mega Meet on Feb. 2. She placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 12.22 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Horsman placed first in the weight throw with a distance of 12.64 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 13th in the weight throw with a toss of 11.71 meters at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. Horsman placed sixth in the weight throw with a 12.36-meter effort at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8.  She placed 18th in the weight throw with a toss of 10.38 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Sophomore Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) earned Alliance/Little East Champion in the shot, placing third with a season-best distance of 10.71 meters, and in the weight throw, placing sixth at 11.56 meters, at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16.

 

She placed 48th in the shot with a throw of 9.88 meters and 44th in the weight throw with a toss of 11.76 meters at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Bucci placed 13th in the shot with a throw of 9.93 meters and 10th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.44 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. She placed seventh in the shot with a throw of 9.62 meters and third in the weight throw with a toss of 11.77 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Bucci placed second in the shot with a throw of 10.21 meters and second in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 11.84 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 11th in the shot with a throw of 10.89 meters and 15th in the weight throw with a toss of 11.13 meters at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. She placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 11.35 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. Bucci placed 26th in the shot with a toss of 9.10 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Sophomore Steina Flemming (Tortola, BVI) placed 11th in the 55 meters with a time of 7.30 at the 2008 NCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships on Mar. 14. Flemming earned All-ECAC honors in the 55 meters, placing eighth with a time of 7.28 at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 8. She placed fifth in the 55 meters with a school-record time of 7.17 at the N.E. Open Championships on Mar. 1.

 

She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She was the Alliance/Little East Champion in the 55 meters, placing first with a time of 7.34. Flemming also placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.28 and third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21.

 

She placed 13th in the 55 meters with a time of 7.37 and 52nd in the 200 meters with a time of 26.43 at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Flemming placed second in the 55 meters with a time of 7.31 and 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.25 at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. She  placed second in the 55 meters with a time of 7.32 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Flemming placed first in the 55 meters with a time of 7.46 and first in the 200 meters with a time of 27.81 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 12th in the 60 meters with a time of 8.09 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. She placed third in the 60 meters with a time of 7.90 and 19th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.55 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8.

 

Sophomore Ashley Guimond (Sterling, CT) placed fifth in the mile with a time of 6:37.82 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 30th in the mile with a season-best time of 6:35.89 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12.

 

Sophomore Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed eighth in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 9.68 meters. Iby also placed third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21 and second as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65.

 

She placed 75th in the 55 meters with a season-best time of 8.06 and 153rd  in the 200 meters with a time of 29.20 at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Iby placed 17th in the 55 meters (8.12), 26th in the 200 meters with a season-best effort (29.12) and placed 16th in the triple jump (8.98 meters) at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. She placed 14th in the 200 meters with a time of 29.31 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Iby placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 9.84 meters and third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.83 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 24th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.24 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. Iby placed 47th in the 60 meters (8.86), 48th in the 200 meters (29.49), and 19th in the triple jump (9.49 meters) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. She placed 36th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.73 and 23rd in the triple jump with a leap of 9.22 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Sophomore Christine Smith (Foster, RI) placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:52.08 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19.  She placed 24th in the 3,000 meter s with a time of 12:37.35 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. Smith placed 33rd the mile with a time of 6:40.13 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8.   She placed 28th in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 12:04.77 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Freshman Catherine Agresto (Newport, RI) placed 13th in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 31.94 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19.  She placed 60th in the 60 meters with a season-best time of 9.36 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8.

 

Freshman Lindsey Brisson (Coventry, RI) earned All-Little East honors in the 600 meters, placing sixth (ninth overall) amongst league competitors with a season-best time of 1:54.96 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 19th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:42.27 at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. Brisson placed 21st in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.90 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. She placed seventh in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:41.85 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. Brisson placed 23rd in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:41.55 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. She placed 35th in 800 meters with a time of 2:42.01 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. Brisson placed 22nd in the 1,000 meters with a season-best time of 3:34.62 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Freshman Hope Clark (Attleboro, MA) placed 15th in the mile with a season-best time of 6:31.82 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 17th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:53.70 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26.  Clark placed sixth in the mile with a time of 6:40.16 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 31st in the mile with a time of 6:47.62 at Yale Invitational on Jan. 12.

 

Freshman Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) placed 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:39.58 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 112th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:33.60 at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9.  Desrosiers placed 16th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:36.98 at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2.  She placed 14th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:39.81 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26.  Desrosiers placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:02.30 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 27th in the mile with a time of 6:09.61 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12.   Desrosiers placed 10th in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 11:51.24 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8.  She placed 33rd in the mile with a season-best time of 6:11.48 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Freshman Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) placed 13th  in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.41 at the N.E. Championships on Mar. 1. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed fifth in the 55 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 9.36. DiBlasi also placed third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21 and second as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65.

 

DiBlasi placed 64th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.60 at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. She placed 12th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.66 and 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 9.46 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. DiBlasi placed 22nd in the 55 meters with a time of 8.31 and eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.54 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. She placed fourth in the triple jump (9.35 meters), eighth in the 200 meters (30.17) and placed second in the 55 meter hurdles (9.64) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. DiBlasi placed 17th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.23 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. She placed 17th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.29 and 18th in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 9.67 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec.  8. DiBlasi placed 86th in the 200 meters with a time of 29.64 and 32nd in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.77 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Freshman Rachael Johnson (Wakefield, RI) placed 12th in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 9.51 meters and 14th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:49.75 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 20th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:43.98 and 15th in the triple jump with a leap of 9.02 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. Johnson placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.11 meters and fifth in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:48.08 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 36th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:42.65 in the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. Johnson placed 36th n the 800 meters with a time of 2:50.79 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Freshman Denise McCann (West Greenwich, RI) placed 25th in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 30.54 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 23rd in the 55 meters with a season-best time of 8.46 at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. McCann placed 24th in the 55 meters with a season-best time of 8.46 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. She placed 11th in the 55 meters with a time of 8.59 and 14th in the 200 meters with a time of 32.20 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. McCann placed 72nd in the 55 meters with a time of 8.74 in the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Freshman Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) placed 14th in the 55 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 9.46 at the N.E. Championships on Mar. 1. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21 and second as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65. She also placed ninth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.59.

 

Nunes placed 68th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.74 at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. She placed 13th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.67 at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. Nunes placed 28th in the 55 meters with a time of 8.61 and ninth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.49 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. She placed third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.80 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. Nunes placed 22nd in the 60 meter hurdles with a school-record time of 10.51 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. She placed 63rd in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 31.25 and 19th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.58 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. Nunes placed 120th in the 200 meters with a time of 31.56 and 37th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.90 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Freshman Nicole Poirier (Concord, NH) placed 10th in the 3,000 meter run with a season-best time of 12:24.55 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 21st in the mile with a time of 6:30.30 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Poirier placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 13:27.23 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 13th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:46.85 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8.

 

Freshman Rachael Santaniello (Exeter, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing seventh with a season-best distance of 11.30 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She also placed 21st in the shot with a distance of 7.74 meters at the same meet. She placed 45th in the shot with a season-best throw of 11.43 meters at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Santaniello placed 15th in the weight throw with a distance of 10.27 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2.   She placed 19th in the weight throw with a throw of 9.95 meters at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. Santaniello placed 13th in the weight throw with a toss of 9.37 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. She placed 27th in the weight throw with a toss of 9.27 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.
