GULLS STAY UNDEFEATED IN, 8-1,
WIN OVER RIC

 

BEVERLY, MA – The Endicott College women’s tennis team kept its perfect season alive as the Gulls swung past Rhode Island College, 8-1, in a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon. The win raises the Gulls’ mark to 9-0 overall, while the Anchorwomen slip to 5-3.

 

The visitors were quick out of the gate as doubles team Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) and Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) defeated the previously unbeaten duo of Nicole Breting (Johnston, RI) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, MA), 8-2. Endicott rebounded as Kate Cioffi (Essex, VT) and Alyson Boehm (Lowell, MA) took down Brittany LaBarre (Greensville, RI) and Gabriela Batek (Greensville, RI), 8-2. Kate Fiske (Westerly, RI) and teammate Jenna Carme (Greenfield, MA) gave the Gulls a 2-1 lead as they posted an 8-3 win over Kim Field (Barrington, RI) and Melissa Benoit (Cumberland, RI).

Endicott was able to put the match out of reach in singles play. Cioffi eased past Funk in the No. 1 spot (6-1, 6-1). Breting edged LaBarre (7-6, 6-1) and Wardner beat Bannon (7-5, 6-4). Boehm continued her strong play with a (6-1, 6-1) victory over Field, while Fisk downed Batek (6-3, 6-2). Carme closed out the match with a dominating (6-0, 6-1) win over Benoit in the final singles slot.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will look to stay unbeaten in Little East Conference play at home against Bridgewater State on Saturday, Sept. 27.
