JUSTIN O’CONNOR NAMED ECAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Providence, RI—The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named Rhode Island College freshman goalkeeper Justin O’Connor (North Kingstown, RI) as its Div. III New England Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

O’Connor, who was also named the Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, recorded a pair of shutouts to post a 1-0-1 record with a 0.00 GAA and a 1.000 saves percentage. On Sept. 23, he made six stops in a 0-0 double overtime tie at Bridgewater State. Four days later, O’Connor stopped all five shots he faced to backstop the Anchormen to a 1-0 Little East Conference victory at UMass Dartmouth, extending Rhode Island College’s unbeaten streak to seven matches. For the season, he has played in eight games, starting six of them. O’Connor is 4-2-2 with four shutouts, a 0.79 goals-against average and a .846 save percentage in 681:47 of action.

Head Coach John Mello’s team is currently 5-3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Little East. In upcoming action, RIC will host LEC rival Western Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 4.
