RIC FALLS IN UNOFFICIAL RHODE ISLAND
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

 

Bristol, RI—Rhode Island College fell, 3-1, to Johnson & Wales in the unofficial R.I. State Women’s Volleyball Championship, hosted by Roger Williams on Saturday afternoon. Each of the Ocean State’s four Div. III women’s volleyball teams took part in the quad-meet.

 

 

 

The Anchorwomen opened with a hard-fought, 3-2 (10-25, 26-24, 13-25, 25-16, 15-10) win over the hosts. Sophomore outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) led RIC with 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Erin St. Jacques (Warwick, RI) posted nine kills and five blocks, while junior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) posted nine kills and 11 digs.

Rhode Island College followed up the win with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 24-26, 25-13) win over Salve Regina. Three Anchorwomen reached double digits in kills, as Corriveau (14), St. Jacques (13) and Heidel (12) led the way. Senior libero Jackie Gervais (Woonsocket, RI) registered a team-high 21 digs, while Corriveau was five off the pace.

 

 

 

The Wildcats edged RIC in four sets, 3-1 (14-25, 17-25, 25-23, 21-25) in the Anchorwomen’s final match of the day. Corriveau logged 13 kills and 17 digs.

 

 

 

Freshman setter Tiana Pittman (Warwick, RI) recorded 105 assists in 13 games on the day.

 

 

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Wesleyan on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. It will be the Anchorwomen’s first home match in 44 days.
