ST. AMAND AND FUNK EARN ALL-LITTLE EAST HONORS IN WOMEN’S TENNIS

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College seniors Ashley St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) and Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) were named All-Little East Conference for their performance in women’s tennis this season.

 

St. Amand was named First Team All-Little East Conference at No. 6 singles. She posted a 9-3 (.750) mark in singles and an 8-6 mark (.571) at No. 3 doubles for 13.0 points on the season. St. Amand was tied for the team lead in doubles wins, was third in points and was tied for third in singles victories.

All-Conference Award at UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 19.

 

She is a nursing major and a 2005 graduate of West Warwick High School.

 

Funk was named Second Team All-Little East Conference at No. 1 singles. She was 10-4 (.714) in singles and 8-7 (.533) at No. 1 doubles for 14.0 points on the season. Funk led the team in points and was tied for first in both singles and doubles victories. She is tied for the RIC all-time lead in doubles wins (51), while ranking third in singles victories (45).

She is an education major with a concentration in special education and a 2005 graduate of Montville High School.

 

Head Coach Liz Barrette’s team finished the season with an 8-8 overall record and a 5-2 (third place) finish in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen wrapped up the campaign with a 5-0 loss to second-seeded Bridgewater State in the semifinals of the 2008 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Championships on Oct. 18.
