FLEMING & TAVANA SCORE AS RIC
FALLS TO WARRIORS

Willimantic, CT – Senior midfielder Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) and junior midfielder Christina Tavana (Middletown, CT) each scored, but Rhode Island College was unable to come back from a five-goal deficit in a 6-2 loss to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon in collegiate women’s soccer action.

 

The Warriors (9-4-1, 5-0-1) keep pace with Western Connecticut for the Little East Conference first place spot heading into next weekend’s regular season league finale. RIC (1-15-1, 0-5-1) will look for its first LEC win against Southern Maine next Saturday in a battle of the league’s two remaining winless squads.

 

Senior midfielder Nicole Gaudette (Colchester, CT) led Eastern Connecticut with five points on two goals and an assist. Junior forward Sarah Swann (Oxford, CT) matched Gaudette’s offensive output, while senior forward Meghan Ryczek (East Haddam, CT) posted a goal and two helpers.

 

ECSU junior goalkeeper Kim Church (Farmington, CT) picked up the win, making two stops.

 

RIC sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) made eight stops in a losing effort. Freshman midfielder Vanessa DiDomenico (Wrentham, MA) picked up her first collegiate point with an assist on Fleming’s goal in the 79th minute.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Salem State on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m.
