Rhode Island College (8-2) took the first game, 2-0. Sophomore designated hitter Laura Kostenblatt (Keene, NH) hit an RBI-single up the middle to put RIC on top, 1-0, in the bottom of the first. Perry came back with a solo shot (2) to left field in the second to give sophomore starting pitcher Melanie Neece (Westfield, MA) all she would need to earn the win. Neece hurled five innings, allowing just two hits, before giving way to sophomore Amanda Berard (Swansea, MA) in the sixth. Berard retired all six batters she faced to earn the save.

The Seahawks (6-6) were held to just two hits as junior pitcher Sarah Jakiela (Meriden, CT) took the loss (6-6), despite an eight-strikeout performance.

A five-run third inning propelled the hosts to an 8-0 win in five in the second half of the twinbill. Seahawk pitching handed out 13 walks and committed eight wild pitches in the loss. RIC sophomore shortstop Donielle Mattoon (Coventry, RI) led off with a walk and Perry smashed a double to straightaway center to seal the win in the home half of the fifth. Sophomore designated player Laura DeNoncour (Johnston, RI) went 2-for-2 with one run scored and an RBI. Junior pitcher Jenna Deveines (Lowville, NY) struck out six and allowed just four hits in five innings of work to earn the win. Jakiela suffered the loss.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host a doubleheader vs. Bates tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
