BLANCHARD PICKS UP FIRST COLLEGIATE WIN AS RIC DOWNS RAMS, 12-5

Knocks In Four as Anchormen Win Fourth Straight

Providence, RI—Sophomore
pitcher Eric Blanchard (Warwick, RI) picked up his first
collegiate win (1-0) and classmate first baseman Gary Levesque
(East Providence, RI) knocked in four runs as Rhode Island
College defeated Framingham State, 12-5, at Anchorman Field on
Wednesday afternoon. |

RIC, which
wins for the fourth consecutive game, raises its record to 12-3,
while the Rams see their mark fall to 3-8. |

The Anchormen
jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Senior
shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA) hit a two-run double,
Levesque plated two more with a single and junior designated hitter
Tim Schabowski (Pascoag, RI) belted a two-run homer (1) to
chase Framingham State sophomore pitcher Matt Magazine
(Marlborough, MA) from the game. |

The Rams put
three runs across in the fourth as sophomore shortstop Joe
Sheehan (Burlington, MA) doubled in two runs and later scored on
a wild pitch. FSC continued to chip away at the deficit, pulling
within two runs, 7-5, in the seventh. |

|
|
|
|
Three Ram
errors in the home half of the seventh allowed the hosts to add two
additional runs, capped by a senior center fielder B.J. Doyon
(Douglas, MA) RBI single. RIC iced the contest in the eighth as
freshman shortstop Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, MA) walked with
the bases loaded and Levesque drove in two with a double. |

|
Blanchard
hurled five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while
striking out four. RIC used four different pitchers the rest of the
way as Levesque set down the side in order in the eighth and senior
closer Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) struck out the side
in the ninth. |

|
|
|
Magazine
suffered the loss for the visitors. Senior reliever Matt
Nicholson (Watertown, MA) allowed just one unearned run on a
single hit in four solid innings of work. |

|
|
|
|
Levesque went
2-for-4 with four RBI, one run scored and a double to pace the RIC
offense. |
|
|
|
|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will host Salem State tomorrow
afternoon at 3:30 p.m. |
