Providence, RIóSophomore pitcher Eric Blanchard (Warwick, RI) picked up his first collegiate win (1-0) and classmate first baseman Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) knocked in four runs as Rhode Island College defeated Framingham State, 12-5, at Anchorman Field on Wednesday afternoon.

RIC, which wins for the fourth consecutive game, raises its record to 12-3, while the Rams see their mark fall to 3-8.

The Anchormen jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Senior shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA) hit a two-run double, Levesque plated two more with a single and junior designated hitter Tim Schabowski (Pascoag, RI) belted a two-run homer (1) to chase Framingham State sophomore pitcher Matt Magazine (Marlborough, MA) from the game.

The Rams put three runs across in the fourth as sophomore shortstop Joe Sheehan (Burlington, MA) doubled in two runs and later scored on a wild pitch. FSC continued to chip away at the deficit, pulling within two runs, 7-5, in the seventh.

Three Ram errors in the home half of the seventh allowed the hosts to add two additional runs, capped by a senior center fielder B.J. Doyon (Douglas, MA) RBI single. RIC iced the contest in the eighth as freshman shortstop Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, MA) walked with the bases loaded and Levesque drove in two with a double.

Blanchard hurled five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out four. RIC used four different pitchers the rest of the way as Levesque set down the side in order in the eighth and senior closer Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) struck out the side in the ninth.

Magazine suffered the loss for the visitors. Senior reliever Matt Nicholson (Watertown, MA) allowed just one unearned run on a single hit in four solid innings of work.

Levesque went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run scored and a double to pace the RIC offense.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salem State tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
