DROLET SCORES FIVE AS RIC FALLS,
15-9, AT WORCESTER STATE

Worcester,
MA—Freshman
midfielder Nichole Drolet (Somersworth, NH) led Rhode Island
College with a career-high five goals, but it wasn’t enough to help
the Anchorwomen as they fell, 15-9, to Worcester State on Thursday
night. |

Senior
attacker Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) tallied
six goals and two assists to help propel Worcester State to the win.
Junior Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) notched four goals and
an assist, while third-year Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro,
MA) sent in a pair of goals, while also recording two helpers.
Cosenza picked up a game-high six ground balls while senior Kim
Cosenza (Fitchburg, MA) forced two turnovers. |

Freshman
Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI) recorded two goals for RIC,
while classmate Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI) chipped in with a
team-best five ground balls. |

Worcester
State went up 3-1 at 25:40 before RIC scored four on the next five
shots over the next nine minutes of play, which included three from
Drolet, to make the score 5-4 in favor of the visitors. After Feeley
scored a pair of goals 2½ minutes apart, Drolet scored a goal to
knot the game up, 6-6, with 8:38 remaining in the period. |

With the game
gridlocked over the next eight minutes, Childs finally broke the
tie, scoring with 22 seconds left on the clock to send both teams
off the field for the intermission. |

|
|
|
|
After the
second half started, WSC flipped a switch and rattled off four
straight goals in a span of seven minutes to take a 10-7 lead. Two
free position shots sandwiched a Feeley goal to bring the
Anchorwomen within two (11-9), but the Lancers closed out the
contest with four unanswered goals as they held RIC scoreless for
the last 12½ minutes of play. |

Worcester
State ended the contest with a 35-13 shooting advantage, which
included a 20-3 edge in the second half. The Lancers controlled the
turf as they had a 29-18 ground ball margin. |

RIC sophomore
goalie Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, RI) made nine saves. |
|
|
|
|
|
In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will open the Little East Conference
circuit at home against Western Connecticut on Saturday, Mar. 28. |
