HORSMAN, NYZIO AND MANGUM
TAKE HOME FIRST PLACE FINISHES AT SEASON-OPENING MEET

Hartford, CT-Senior Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI), junior Ashley Nyzio (Pawtucket, RI) and freshman Kim Mangum (Warwick, RI) earned first place finishes in their respective events as the Rhode Island College women’s outdoor track and field team opened the 2009 season at the Trinity Invitational. It was an individual meet with no team scoring.

Horsman placed first (43.20m) in the hammer, Nyzio was the best in the javelin (38.00m) and Mangum posted the top mark in the triple jump with a new program record (11.10m).

In addition to her efforts in the triple jump, Mangum was second in the long jump (4.92m) and as part of the 4x400m relay (4:13.43).

 

 

 Junior Ashley Nyzio

 

Senior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) was second in both the high jump (1.52m) and 4x400m relay (4:13.43) and seventh in the 1,500m (5:06.55).

 

Junior Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) placed second as part of the 4x400m relay (4:13.43), third in the triple jump (10.51m) and 11th in the 100m (13.86).

 

Junior Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) was third in the hammer (40.95m) and 14th in the shot (9.74m).

 

Sophomore Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) placed second as part of the 4x400m relay (4:13.43), third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.57) and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.86)

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Coast Guard on Saturday, Apr.4 .
