ROSSI GETS THREE KNOCKS AS BASEBALL TAMES WILDCATS, 6-1

RI—Junior
right fielder Jared Rossi (Johnston, RI) went 3-for-5 with a
run scored as the Rhode Island College baseball team defeated
Johnson & Wales, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Pierce Field. |

Rhode Island
College took the lead in the top of the fourth when an RBI double by
freshman left fielder Mike Nadiger (Warwick, RI) put the team
up 1-0. Johnson & Wales responded in the bottom of the fifth when
junior left fielder Mike Sarfati (Plainfield, NJ) crossed the
plate after a run-scoring single by sophomore right fielder Bryan
Sayers (Chelmsford, MA). |

The visiting
Anchormen regained the advantage in the top of the sixth, going
ahead 2-1 on an RBI single by senior second baseman Garrett
Grenier (North Smithfield, RI). RIC extended its lead to 5-1
after three runs in eighth, paced by a Nadiger RBI triple. The
visitors added one more in the ninth on a senior third baseman
Jeff Costa (Pawtucket, RI) sacrifice fly. |

Nadiger was
2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Freshman starter Mike DeWald
(Hope Valley, RI) picked up the win (2-0) for the Anchormen,
allowing one run on five hits, in six innings of work. |

Sayers paced
the Wildcats in the setback, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while junior
Jeff Jordan (Woodbridge, NJ) suffered the loss (4-2),
allowing one earned run on four hits, in three innings. |

Johnson & Wales falls to 14-14, while Rhode Island College improves
to 17-10 for the year. |
